Since the incident which produced this thread happened in my journal, I suppose it behooves me to comment. There have been some good posts and helpful suggestions, none of which would do any good to repeat.

In defense of those of us who fell short in Apollonia's eyes, we did discuss many social issues over the course of several hundred posts before Apollonia joined us. Friends chatting about things that interested us in a congenial manner. Apollonia's posts were from the start confusing and her manner was often rude. So we decided to just ignore her rather than responding to posts we barely understood and thereby encouraging her to be even more disruptive. It was during a period of ignoring her that the discussion turned to 1970s fashion.

My suggestion for anyone who enters a personal journal and doesn't like the subject being discussed or the manner in which it is being discussed is to start a conversation more to your liking in your own journal.

Personally, I find the idea that you are enlightened in self reflection and everyone here who disagrees with you is not, to be ridiculous. Should we all pull out our psyche credentials and start measuring our dicks or just wave them about?


Here's a question for everyone else. Is there a term for what has happened here? Newbie blunders into well established community, ignores the conventions that allow for intelligent and useful communication, insults a wide range of people, ignores all attempts to engage in getting the newbie used to the place and finding her own place, ignores most posts asking for clarification or attempting to address issues newbie has raised. Newbie positions herself as the lone, maverick intellectual who is being put upon by the ignorant, unevolved, classist mob. Thus ensuring she is Right *and* a victim, while the people she has set up to be the mob are positioned as the perpetrators of violence who need to look at themselves in order become decent human beings.

Of course the problem is that there is no way to respond to this that doesn't reinforce the basic premise of faux victimhood. You disagree and you are a perpetrator, you agree and you support the idea that she is being victimised.

And round and round we go.

The game gathers mostly around a manipulative person ,pulling the strings,and letting the more weaker who wants to belong to the in-clique,the dirty job of biting the "newbie" out...to prove their "worth" to the gang.This acts of violence are used as artificial "shared potty hand" group cohesion.

Not a big thing,to see the hidden impotence in it.
