Good BoB Almighty! No-one been to the pix for over a week?
I went to see Stardust last night - very good, special effects to the required standard, but didn't get in the way of the story. I've read the novel so I know the story, but it would be useful to hear from people who've not read the book, what do they think?

Well I have seen the frankly marvellous "Ratatoullie".
I must say that I tohught "Cars" was a big let down and I wondered if the Pixar number was up. But no, this film is up there with Toy Story 2 and the Incredibles as one of the finest animated films in modern times. How do they keep doing it

Love Actually - better at the start and then just goes strange with everyone and they're brother being so inter-connected.
The Devil Wears Prada - a searing critique of the fashion industry this is not. Nothing really changes for these characters, the means ones stay mean, the good ones get screwed over - people are made miserable by exposure to this world and the misery persists. A very empty film I thought.
Oh Brother where art thou? Wonderful. Possibly my favourite Cohen Brohter movie after Big Lebowski - one word of warning: Don't watch the cast and crew interviews on the disc, they're depressingly vacuous.

I've not seen The Devil... I've read the novel though. It's interesting, mostly just made me want to watch Mean Girls and other feel-good but bitchy chick flicks (oooh! Heathers! There's a bitchy chick-flick with a twist!)

The soundtrack CD is pretty good, too, won a Grammy. Not bad for a bunch of old roots songs:

One of my favorites is the Alison Krauss version of "Down to the River to Pray".

I saw Hostel 2 the other night. Some terrifically icky bits but overall really rather tedious.
I also saw Paradise Lost (aka Turistas). Similarly good for he icky bits but there were nowhere near enough of them.

Watched "Mr. Woodcock" similar storyline to "Just Friends", "Beautiful Girls" and "Garden State" in the sense that its about going back tot he small town you came from and how you and it have changed or not as the sace maybe.
"Mr Woodcock" is more like "Just Friends in that it has its moments of gross out humour but it also manages to be slightly emotional too, but what do I know?
I know it made me laugh a lot. I liked it for that.

I was disappointed by Across the Universe, it was very uneven and didn't have enough plot. I did enjoy the Beatles music, and liked the two young lead actors, but that is not enough to carry a movie.
But, I was pleasantly surprised by Elizabeth: The Golden Age. It was thrilling. Cate Blanchett is such a phenomenal actress.

If this is only about cinema trips I'll only be posting once a year
Watched I, Robot again this weekend. I normally don't like action films but that one is soooo good.
Agree that Spiderman 3 sucks (I've never been so bored) and Brother Where Art Thou is fab.
I thought Ratatouille was basically a Pixar rip-off of Flushed Away. But from what's being said here it seems it's better than that. So, do I take the kids over half-term?

For me that is a bit like saying The Beatles are a rip off of The Bay City Rollers.
Ratatouille is at least a hundred times better than Flushed Away I would say having watched them both.

Watched Sahara last night... Reasonably good clean cheesy action fun. Oiled up buffness of Matt, his sidekick (the ultimate non-Indie, he even regularly loses his hat... Oh the hilarity. Dont, my sides are splitting...)
meh. it killed a couple of hours. Probably wont need to watch it again any time soon... Going to see Resident Evil saturday and stardust tuesday, hoping to see daywatch soon
