I wish I'd learnt to play the guitar.

I wish I'd learnt that its not shameful to make a mistake.

I wish I'd learnt earlier that someone could love me JUST for being me, and I didn't have to show off, be clever, be right, or superior.

I wish I'd learnt earlier that I could stop smoking.

I wish I'd learnt that the more love you give, the more you've got.

Not ALL pretty women will say yes when you ask them/tell them you/I am the `one` (for them). But you MUST ask anyway because the regret of not doing so will last a life-time.

I wish I had learned:

That people will tell you anything to get what they want from you.

That there is quite possibly more to be learned from failure than from success.

That professional gain at the expense of personal matters will only leave you stressed out and alone.

That loving another, be it family or otherwise, can be both a strength and a weakness.

That at some point everyone will disappoint you, but that doesn't mean you have to love them any less.

And most of all I wish I had learned earlier the value of a good night's sleep.

Another old thread I was looking at and thought was worth a re-visit, especially as I had posted to it under both h2g2 names I use(d).

I think I wish I learnt that being a parent isn't something you learn, but just comes naturally, although being a GOOD parent is something you can improve on.

I wish I had learnt that you can fold towels in thirds and don't always have to fold things in half.

I wish I had learnt that certain parts of my wardrobe contents, which I though were cool and sexy were just sad, and on that note, that having long hair AND a thinning spot was just as sad.

I still wish I had learnt to program correctly rather than copying and pasting others - 7 years later and still doing it.

How interesting.

What do I wish I known when I last posted to this thread in 2002?

I wish I'd discovered Terry Pratchett 20 or 30 years earlier.

I was about to say that "30 years" earlier would be before he published anything, but I'm amazed to see "The Carpet people" being published in 1971!

Oh, jwf, that *exactly* what I think!

Although, when I did discover TP a year or so ago, it was *wonderful* that there were so many books to read. There are still 2 or 3 I've not tracked down and it's nice to have the treat to look forward to when I do.

But if I'd discovered him earlier, I know I would have bought everything as it came out, and have a lovely shelf-ful by now.

Ah, but then you may have got bored - I "discovered" him when Colour of Magic was reprinted for the first time, then got everything on publication for years and years, but then got bored.

Anyway, back on topic.

There's a heap load of cooking related things - how to make a good curry - although that maybe that tblspn in TABLE spoon not TEA spoon.
