Having a work email sent round about a possible trip to Budapest, and then chatting to all sorts of folk about going, saying "I've always wanted to go to Thailand"!

OK, this story is not really an embarrassing story. Its more a story of how blind can some people be of whats going on right in front of their noses.
Some years ago whilst at University I met this wonderful woman at a student conference over a Christmas holiday. She was studying at the same University as me but in a different year group, on a different course and lived the other side of town to me, so we would probably have never met normally. Anyway on our return to University for the new term she was very keen that we continue the relationship, but she didn't want to tell any of her friends. Including those she lived with, one of which was her boyfriend!
Over the next few weeks I was introduced to her housemates (inc boyfriend) as this new friend she'd met at the conference. Very quickly they were comfortable with idea of me hanging around their house, going out to the pub with them, whatever. They never worried that the two of us were always the last two up at night after those nights out. They never batted an eyelid that she would sleep two or three nights a week at my house, supposedly on my "sofa". I just could not believe their naivete at what was so obviously going on around them.
This bizarre state of affairs went on for nearly two months before they found out. They found out not because they became suspicious, but because a friend of a friend of a friend (etc) asked one of the housemates about the two of us as an item. I was quite open about the situation you see - bemused, but quite open, therefore this friend of friend didn't realise there was any kind of secret to be kept. Even when this happened they still didn't really believe it until I cut the cr*p and stood up told them exactly what was going on.
To this day I still do not understand how none of them got suspicious after about week one. I also still feel a bit guilty about the hurt I caused her boyfriend. You see over those weeks I got to know him well and found I liked him a lot - I guess he finally got an answer as to why he hadn't been getting much over those last couple of months. Sorry Phil.

As ever one story stimulates another ....
Cardiff 1981, boys weekend to see friends studying there, planning lots of drinky poo's over two days. Went out with our friends and a pile of their friends. It was going to be a manly drinking weekend on account of the fact that there was not many girls at it was science, engineering courses etc, etc.
Our friend was sharing a house with three other guys and we all went out in a group with them and a number of their friends. I was getting on very well with one of the girls in the group and at the end of the evening was invited back to her place.
I had the presence of mind to think about getting a key from one of my friends housemates and walked up to him and a group of his friends and told them something along the lines that `I didn`t know what they were on about as I had managed to pull on my first night there and I wouldn`t mind borrowing a key so I could let myself back in in the morning` Went off feeling pretty smug.
Anyhow I had a good night and got back in very early the next morning and crawled in my sleeping bag to get some much needed sleep. I was eventually woken up and asked what time I got in to which I said nothing but pulled a sunday paper out of the sleeping bag that I had picked up on the walk back to the house as evidence
The embarrasment came when I was told at sunday lunch that the girl I had spent the night with was a former girlfriend of one of the guys in the house and they were on a break. The guy was THE ONE I ASKED TO BORROW A KEY FROM . A real toe curling moment ... makes me cringe now thinking about it.

Rings ...
For a while in my first year at Uni I went out with a girl from the Canoe Club (which I was also a member of) but being both quite busy we only really saw each other on Thursday nights (away from the canoeing that is)...
One Thursday she introduced me to her BF - not saying it was - and we got chatting and he was an OK bloke - turned out that he was diving most Thursdays, which was why we hadn't met.....
We carried on for a fair while after this, and it was only after I saw them together at a Friday disco that I realisedd why we only really saw each other on Thursdays!!!

We stopped seeing each other (amicably) soon after that (might have been something to do with who I was with that night too....)
I don't think he ever found out though, to my knowledge they could still be together!!

Once when staying at the Liverpool Adelphi hotel my partner and I had to have a twin rather than a double room. We didn't think that was too great a problem as the beds could be pushed together. Well of course at the critical moment the beds separate

I was on a train once and got a huge cramp in my hamstring. I decided to be discrete and simply press my foot against the opposing seat to straighten my leg forcibly. Unfotunately someone was sitting there and my leg kept touching his. He kept giving me very strange looks. After about the third one I started to apologise and explain I had cramp when I noticed everybody in the entire carriage was watching and laughing at me.
I spent the rest of the journey in a different carriage.

Althoug even more embarrassing was when I was taking 4 work colleagues to the Pub in my shiny new car, three Girls in the back one bloke in the front sat on the edge of the seat to get in (It had sport seats) and RIiiiIIIIP my Trews split right down the seam!!!
I can't remember what happened after that though....
(p.s. I wasn't actually fat at the time! ...Honest...)

I hate the automatic doors they have in the trains in Denmark. They are supposed to open when you walk near them, but of course never doesn't. I feel quite embarassed standing in front of the doors waving my hands right under the sensor waiting for the door to open.
