We're pleased to announce that the long awaited radio adaptation of the final three books in Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy 'trilogy', as confirmed in a press release from BBC Radio 4 today.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2004/06_june/21/radio4.shtml
The programmes are adapted and directed by award-winning audio director Dirk Maggs [A2116586] (who Douglas Adams had personally recommended for the job). The best news for fans of the original series is that Maggs has been able to assemble most of the original cast to recreate their roles. This new series Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, Geoffrey McGivern as Ford Prefect, Susan Sheridan as Trillian, Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox and Stephen Moore as Marvin The Paranoid Android. The late Peter Jones's great friend William Franklyn replaces him as The Voice Of The Book. Most surprising of all, courtesy of footage recorded before his death, Douglas himself appears in the series as Agrajag.
The first episode of the show is scheduled to be aired on Tuesday 21 September at 6.30pm. For more information, pop over to the Radio 4 website:

There's a preview of the series on the Radio 4 website and I have to say it's jaw-dropping. William Franklyn sounds just perfect as the Voice of the Book and it's scarcely credible that the original cast have aged 26 years since they first played the characters - they all sound like they did in 1978!
Wow.
Just...
Wow!

"It even works! Some sounds sound familiar indeed.
I got the impression to recognise more then one theme from earlyer productions.
Even the accompanying video is great, whaah to one side, tumbling over. . . Just where is ... where is the sperm whale??"

Listen to the trail on the production company page (linked to from the radio 4 link above).
I've put it in my electronic calendar and once the exams are over I'll start engraving all my personal property with the date...

"The 'Above the title .com' site indeed has a high quality video.
However they first try to sell me a bigger version of quicktime where this one is fast enough. I just have not enough disk space to play all of it , some good for the Real one player I guess ."
