Hooray! I think we are ready! Once I post this, I'll go to the "announcements" thread and fire the starting gun.
Remember I had contacted the original author? Well I heard back from him today. Or, more correctly, I heard back from Kelly, his wife (he is not too handy around a computer, apparently). He/she sent the missing character description for the stand-by character and kindly offered further assistance should we need it. I didn't give them this url in my original email, just in case they didn't like the idea of it being played on the internet (although if they were really irate, the could have found it using a search engine, but I decided that it was a risk worth taking). But in my thank-you reply, I gave them this address and said they were welcome to come and post here. So, we may get a message from the author, sometime
I was also curious about the character names - whether they were the names of the actual people on the Mary Celeste. I hunted on the internet and found some good sites. And the names, at least the ones that were listed, are pretty much the real names. The captain and his wife were really Benjamin and Sarah Briggs. Their daughter, however, was Sophie, not LIzzie, according to one site. I've yet to check some of the other sites. The First and second mates names were really Richardson and Gilling and the cooks name really was Head. The 4 seamen were really German, but I couldn't find their names. The closest I got was one site that said that two of them were named Lorenzen. Maybe that gave the author the idea of having all 4 have the same name. Maybe I should ask him I still have a few sites to look at, so maybe the names will come up. Of course, the castaway and stowaway aren't mentioned, but then they wouldn't be, would they?
One site gives a very plausible explanation for the mystery. I'm sure we'll determine the truth for ourselves I'll post the urls at the other place.

Welcome, Lil! I've got some crackers with cheese hidden away if you'd like some. And I've got a costume for you to try as well.
*hands Lil a Xena inspired costume*
Now, WM, I've got this lovely number. Its more Suzannah of the Mounties than the Little Colonel, but I think it'll work just as well. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Just so everyone knows... I am on new duties at work, but hopefully will have access restored at home tomorrow so I might be p9osting at odd times. I very much want to continue with the game however. It has been very interesting thus far. Updates tomorrow if AT&T gets my cable access fixed.

Odd hour postings shouldn't be a problem, Marv. It's unlikely everyone will be online at the same time anyway, since we have West Coast US players and UK players. That's a difference of ... um ... 8? hours.
It is moving pretty fast, though. I've almost finished the backlog - great reading. You folks are fine actors.
