A Conversation for Role Playing: The Last Voyage of the Mary Celeste

Sorry to hear that UH I'll have to find a stand-in.
Today was terrible. My computer caught a virus and I spent all afternoon getting rid of it. Incidentally, if any of you get an email from me that has an odd subject line, don't open it. Anyway, it meant that I couldn't get any more character descriptions online and also couldn't get my regular work done. That means that tomorrow will be hectic with regular work, so I may not get all the character descriptions online tomorrow. If not, I'll finish on the 5th. I'll do yours first, Witty.
And now I have to leave for home. It is my 15th wedding anniversary today and we are going out for dinner. Talk to you tomorrow.

Happy Anniversary, Garius!

Sorry to hear you're having computer problems, GL.
Happy anniversary!
Arl, come here and let me measure your shoulders for a costume. Everyone else, form a queue behind him and we'll get this started. At least the extra time gives me a chance to sew!

Too bad, Uncle Heavy.
But on a happy , congratulations to you and your wife on your fifteenth anniversary, Garius!
Cheers!
G7, my specialty is handwork. I'll do the cockades and epaulettes for the uniforms. And trim for the ladies hat, if need be.

Sorry, Uncle Heavy.
Grand, WM! I'll welcome any and all help you can offer. Lots of work to do to get everyone here clothed properly.
What color would you like your costume to be? And what style? There are many to choose from...

That's hard to say since I don't know who I am yet. I might very well be the "be-furred savage in a canoe"!
I'll just make myself useful until I know for sure.
*Pulls a length of button thread through a block of beeswax and threads a long darning needle. Then digs through G7's notions box and finds a few nice lengths of navy blue and deep gold ribbons.*
This should do nicely.

*Arl allows G7 to measure his shoulders, arms, torso, inseam, waist, neck, etc.*
Can I help out? I'm no good at design, and my hand sewing's not that hot, but I can sew buttons on, and I'm pretty handy with a machine, if you have one.

Gw7en, Voice of Chaos (Classic) Posted Jul 27, 2001
We do have machines, and many, *many* buttons - as well as hooks & eyes. Thank you for the offer, Arl.
*takes the measurements and begins cutting out the pieces*
If you could just sew these together? Thank you. I always cheat and use machines to put the clothes together. Only hems and stitches that show are hand sewn.

*Looks around at all of the costume pieces and bits of cloth and thread lying about.*
Well, well. Looks like you have been busy! Very nice!
Today, I have managed to finish one character description that I had started on 2 days ago. Only 5 more to go, and they are all scanned-in - they just need cleaning up. Just - ha! Anyway, hopefully I can get some more in today, and the rest on the 5th.
I have asked another person to play Chris's role, but haven't asked anyone to play UH's yet (haven't decided who to ask - any suggestions?). I had originally asked YK to play a role, but after initially accepting, he has bowed out. I have asked someone else to play that role already.
I have a role that I want Lil to play and I hope that she will be reconnected by the 5th. If not, I think you would be excellent in the role, Witty, which means that I shouldn't let you read your character yet (or once I get it online, that is), since you may have to switch. Sorry to keep you in suspense.

We'll have to make something nice for you to wear as well, GL. Any style that you prefer?
As to someone to step in for UH, hmmmm... That's a tough one. You might check with Marv - although he's on vacation right now and having trouble with his home connection besides. But he should be back at the office on Tuesday. And he has role playing experience - at least with dice driven games... Just a thought.

I had thought of Marv, but somehow didn't think this would be his cup of tea. You've met him personally, though. Do you think he would want to play?

Gw7en, Voice of Chaos (Classic) Posted Jul 27, 2001
He just might. Visiting me here in Denver got him into Shadowrun, so stranger things have happened.
I think that if you got him started he would really have fun with it.

*looks up from the pleated ribbon she's formed into a rosette*
Oh! I hope Lil is ready, willing and able. She's a great asset to any adventure! Garius, I'm, ~very~ flattered to be her understudy. I feel like Ruby Keeler in 42nd Street... chorus girls waits in the wings for her big break! Meanwhile, I'll just practice some
meditation to maintain my patience and restraint.
I think d'Elephant would be a good choice, but he's secluded at The Big Bandwagon at the moment. I think that has another 2 weeks to run if he doesn't get voted off.

Gw7en, Voice of Chaos (Classic) Posted Jul 27, 2001
We could start a campaign to get d'E voted off I suppose. After all, Zeppo probably isn't enjoying himself too much, poor .
That's a lovely rosette, WM! I'm quite impressed.

*Arlecchino has been concentrating /very/ hard on sewing, and as a result has done some really adequate work. No loose threads or anything. Then he makes some button holes and sews the buttons on... and they actually match up! He's so excited that he does a tripple back flip, and lands on a pile of hats, crushing some beyond repair*
Oops, sorry.
Hmmm... I think you've already mentioned most of the role-players I'm familiar with, and some that I'm not so familiar with. Marv does seem like he's on often enough to play a role, though. If you're really hard up, you could ask some of the members of the Banned.

Gw7en, Voice of Chaos (Classic) Posted Jul 27, 2001
Lovely work, Arl! And don't worry too much about the hats. You'd be amazed at the ways you can recycle them in sewing.

I was just thinking the same thing. We might even need them "as is", if the plot calls for someone to be disheveled at some point.

Gw7en, Voice of Chaos (Classic) Posted Jul 27, 2001
Very true!
*picks up one of the battered hats and puts it on her head*
Yes, I think this is suitably disheveled! It'll work perfectly.
