As someone excessively new here...........I wonder if I could start a campaign for a special annual Thingite celebration? We could call it "Carpe Sporkum Diem", and hold it on an appropriate Thing, with jollifications and a spork-friendly menu, containing such wonders as Cottage Pie (made with real cottages, perhaps?) and apple crumble.
'Hip, hip Spork Day!'

Sounds good to me! Is cottage pie anything like shepherd's pie?

Shepherd's pie has baked beans in it? I must have been eating cottage pie all my life without realising it!
Anyway, I fear we're getting off-topic. What about this Spork Day thing?

Traditionally, Shepherd's Pie is made from minced mutton in gravy with a layer of baked beans on top, topped off with mashed potato. Cottage Pie is minced beef & onion with a layer of mashed potato on top.
And I like the day idea.

Weeelll.........it is sort of a Thing with added essence of Doobry, really. All kinds of sporkful activities, with loads of food and a modicum of drink. Freelance poet attacks, jellybean racing, Weirdest Digital Pic exhibition, Declamations of the Largest Lies Available, etc.
All the usual stuff...........

shepherds pie is made with lamb/mutton (basically sheep)
cottage pie is made with beef.
either can have baked bean or a layer of cheese and crisps on the top. and sometimes they are eaten with gravy and ketchup in a large gooey mass. or maybe that's just me.
