Sounds to me like the Colonel got it pretty accurate - even if it was a book not a comic strip. Of course, cynics will always dismiss everything as 'coincidence' or a 'lucky guess' anyway... smiley - winkeye

Shimoda

In fact, this is almost, but not quite, entirely wrong. Shimoda is the last name (of Don Shimoda) from Illusions, by Richard Bach. I'm a fan of culture in general, which includes Japan, but more ancient Japan than modern which is what you meant. Yes, I do appreciate martial arts, but I think we can safely chalk that up to a lucky guess.
Lastly, I *am* male, but over 21.

Sorry, Cnl. Sellers, Lucinda... You can still try with the other names I provided, if you like.

Actually, I looked it up on the internet, and Shimoda is very much a Japanese word. It is the name of the city that the US Navy fleet arrived at around the turn of the century (the last one, not this one), when they forced Japan to open their country to trade. Since this is how Japanese culture first began to spread to the West, it was a fair guess. But you may notice that I did a lot of hedging in that analysis, because I got the feeling that I was missing a reference.

You've left other names? That's unfair. The idea is to leave all of your nicknames in one place, to give the analyst more to go on. No wonder I was so inept...

Regardless of the Japanese nature of "Shimoda" it is not what I intended anyone to pick up on.

I left all the names I've gone by in the first message that I posted in this forum. I was tremendously fair, just that no one bothered to notice the other one.

Blatherskite the Mugwump - Bandwidth Bandit

Well, I came late to this forum, and all I saw was the "nobody did mine" message. But I do think it's silly to expect people to pick up on the meanings of obscure references. When I had mine done, the analyst associated my name with the comedian Peter Sellers, rather than the Mark Twain character I drew it from. Regardless of the approach, she did identify the humor aspect of my personality. And this is really just a thing for fun... I may get some things wrong, and I may get some things right. I may even hit on something you hadn't thought of before.

I suppose I could continue, since you haven't betrayed all that much more information, so, on to the others... Dragon, Nemesis, chaoticist, RLodovic

I get the feeling that the RLodovic is either your true name or another obscure reference. If it's your true name, then it tells me a bit about you, but if it is another reference, I would naturally have to know something about the reference first.

The other three are fairly straightforward, though. Dragon reinforces the Japanese culture/martial arts impression I got from Shimoda, since dragons are so prominent in that culture. It also betrays an interest in fantasy, which is reinforced by the other names. But you also have an interest in the dark forces of the world. Someone who calls himself Nemesis is likely to be the kind of person who watches a thriller movie and cheers for the bad guys, or one who laughs at moments the other patrons might consider inappropriate. Someone who likes chaos isn't necessarily an anarchist, but one who likes things that are disorganized. Your bedroom is probably a mess. You probably make plans on the spur of the moment. You enjoy social situations where absolutely anything can happen. The mix of capitalization styles in the various names reinforces this impression.

The caps also reveal someone with an agile mind, who is easily able to operate in a wide variety of situations. This is an unconventional person with unconventional views, and one who adapts to his environment with ease. The number of names and their variety indicates a person who travels far and wide on the web. You've already told me that you are over 21, but I wouldn't say that you are very much older... if you are over 25, I'd be surprised.

You're quite right. I'll admit it's not fair to people who came in late, such as yourself, but as I was replying to someone else who had read my original post, I didn't think it was necessary to restate the other names. I apologize for the inconvenience and any undue mental strain I've imposed.

With this analysis, you're dead on. RLodovic is another reference. Robot Lodovic Trema of the "second" foundation series. Coupled with Shimoda, had you known to what they referred, you would have guessed (and I'm sure you would have) that I like to read. Dragon, of course, does refer to dragons in general. I prefer the Western-looking dragon, but one that is revered for wisdom as the Japanese, etc. And I am the fan of fantasy that you make me out to be. Nemesis does find me on the side of the bad guy or playing devil's advocate sometimes, but I don't side with him just because he's the bad guy. I do have a tendency to laugh at the inappropriate time, spontaneously, or for no reason. The chaos in chaoticist is rather the mathematical definition of chaos which seems random, but is in fact very ordered. Yes, my room is a frightful mess, but I know where everything is. I do enjoy "Whose Line Is It Anyway" so that should speak to the spontenaity. The fact that it's all lowercase is simply a function of not being able to use caps. In general, because I write, I prefer to capitalize names, et al.

Yes, I'm highly adaptable. I tend to become what people need from me when they need it. The number of names is a function of how many different account names I need, yes. The first two, Dragon and Nemesis, actually come from the days when I frequented BBSes (Bulletin Board Systems). Finally, quite correctly, I'm 22.

I _like_ it. You've got the pronunciation right, too. I do have musical-poetic connections, and do enjoy fantasy (books; games, but _not_ a gamer.) I chose Rhyolyn to game with.

But I disagree that it's vague. It's very specific: I'm the _only_ one. That way, I _am_ recognized. People will get to know me, because wherever I am, it's _me_. I give up _tons_ of personal information, to those who discern it.

You're right, too, about drawing a line between VL and RL relationships...

I like that Rhyolyn strikes you as almost genderless and ageless...I like "very mature" smiley - smiley - definitely over 25... smiley - smiley

Thank you Colonel, for sharing your impressions...you're pretty savvy yourself,

Slightly Ept Analysis for Ishmael, Signor Mountanto, pilgrim, hitherto

Post 133

Blatherskite the Mugwump - Bandwidth Bandit

Well, I'm glad that wasn't such an abysmal failure, then. I'll give it another shot, then...

Ishmael, Signor Mountanto, pilgrim, hitherto...

When I read Ishmael, the first thing that comes to mind is the famous literary character. My literary education isn't as good as it should be... Moby Dick? No, that was Captain Ahab. I can't remember which book it was, but I believe it was related to Moby Dick... high adventure, and all of that. Signor Mountanto reinforces that impression to me... I get the image of an Italian with an oiled, pointed mustache and beard, dressed in Renaissance regalia, quick with the rapier and even quicker with the ladies. I wouldn't be surprised if this is another literary reference that is going over my head.

Ishmael and Signor are clearly male, and the images they give me are of an adventurous spirit. And with the literary reference(s?), this is also a studious person, well-read, and one with a fine appreciation of the classics. Introvert and extravert, this is a person who is comfortable in a crowd as well as alone. This person probably enjoys getting out and doing things, and probably has some sort of outdoor hobby that relates to exploration... hiking, biking, spelunking, scuba diving, rock climbing...

pilgrim gives me something of a quandary. If it is analysed with the first two examples in mind, then I come up with an image of John Wayne, who is famous for calling people 'pilgrim' in his movies. So we have a reinforcement of the adventurer, and we have one in three completely different themes... the Renaissance swashbuckler, the 1800's sea explorer, and the wild-west gunslinger. Pilgrim is also associated with the first Puritan settlers to America, which is in itself a sort of adventure, just as pilgrim voyages to Jerusalem or Mecca are today. When I consider the literary references from before, I also think of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, which were traded among various individuals on a pilgrimage to Canterbury. And it could also refer to a metaphysical sort of pilgrim, one trying to find their way to enlightenment. The last three types suggest someone who is either deeply spiritual, or interested in spiritual things, but the adventurous nature is also reinforced. This may be someone who considers death, as well as life, to be a great adventure.

And finally, hitherto. We can see here, as well as from the literary examples, that this is someone who is very much interested in the English language. We have all sorts of historical figures, and now we have an archaic word. This is someone who enjoys playing games with words, and someone who is fascinated by history and historical fiction.

As I've said before, definitely male. An age is hard to arrive at. This could be a precocious teenager with a penchant for literature, or it could be an older man with a youthful spirit. I'm going to cop out on the age for this one.

If there are prizes going for the quietest and most patient poster, you win!

Shea the Sarcastic, aka BBli. I would pronounce you She-ah, with the emphasis on the first syllable. I can see a woman, bright and vivacious, and quick to lose attention. I can see from your "Sarcastic" epithet that once someone's lost your attention, they're not spared from the rough edge of your tongue. So you can be brisk and witty, and you're not afraid to be blunt. Why have you been so patient? Have you lost interest in the thread?

Shea seems to be of Irish origin to me, like Shelagh or O'Shea, but I'm confused by BBli. BB suggests Bulletin Boards, and someone who is comfortable on-line, but Bubbeli is something that babies are called by Russian Jews, as an endearment. I don't know of many Irish-Russian mixes, so perhaps you are from one background and have a comfortable relationship with the other (I'm suggesting that IRL you are of Irish origin, but perhaps know someone of the other background well, probably someone whom you've often heard called "Bubbeli").

with an attempt to guess your age, I'm only getting a reflection of my own, but I'll put that down for the record as well. I see you as late 20s, with a professional and sharp image. Was that reflection? Now I think of it, that was probably wishful thinking!

I'll add my own points to that lovely analysis of Shea, for the heck of it - mainly cos I want to get some karma poins for my exam this afternoon... {they finish Thurs. yeay!}

Shea (pronounce Shay) apparently means "majectic" in gaelic - and it's also the name of some kind of foreign tree that they make butter from. I have to say that tree butter doesn't sound terribly appetizing, but needs must and all that... I'd guess that a self-avowed Princess is unlikely to name herself after a type of butter, though... smiley - laugh It's more likely to be the name of someone who likes the gaelic culture, perhaps - or just someone who heard the name once and thought "that's the one for me!"

The curious thing is that H2G2 is a distilled xSection of eccentric people that become surprisingly predictable in groups.

And very, very interesting! I never knew half that stuff about Shea ... I hate to say what it really is, you make it sound so grand! My favorite baseball team is the Mets ... they play at Shea Stadium, named for Bill Shea, the man to bring National League Baseball back to New York! And it's pronounced Shay.

Okay, Fenny ... you've got a rather accurate assessment of my personality, even if the name was a bit off! Why have I been so patient? Dunno ... I'm always around, I figured someone would get to it eventually, and if not, I think I can go on living ... smiley - winkeye

Wishful thinking on my part as well ... I'm in my very, very, very late 20s ... okay, I'm 40 ... smiley - biggrin

Good luck on the exams Lucinda!
