I would like to join the guild. I have been playing bass guitar in several bands for the last 20 years (never became famous, though).
About 4 or 5 years ago I was in a band that allowed me to sing a few rock'n'roll songs. Then one day the official singer ran away and I was forced to sing all the songs. These days I sing about two thirds of the songs we play and I really love it.
I love a vast range of artists and styles.
My Law of Music is : "When I Like It, I Like It"
Of course there are favourites: Ian Dury, Mickey Jupp, Nick Lowe, Lou Reed, Dr. Feelgood, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Squeeze, The Clash, Geraint Watkins ....
As far as styles are concerned: basically I am a rock'n'roller, but I love punk, ska, blues and Motown just as well.
I know a lot about lyrics and oldies and would like to learn more about bass playing styles (being a singing bassplayer makes you lazy)
Cheers,
Terry

Hello Terry
Welcome to the Guild - there's a badge at A434648 which you can put on your Personal Space.
There are also a few bass players around the place:
Farlander (U206300)
Encybass (U221369)
Bassman (U472825)
...are the ones I know of. There are probably others

Although you would be better off looking for Bassman at U47285 - until Danny's typing straightens out, that is.

danny, is there another me - a doppelganger, perhaps - going around h2g2? 'cos i don't quite remember ever having seriously played bass before... could be the amnesia, i'm not sure... to refresh your memory, i'm the severely boated-ego trombonist and classical guitar player whom you've had to elbow past a couple of times to get to the newbies

It is heartwarming to see so many twangers bangers warblers and tootlers chatting and supporting each other from all over .
I play in a couple of bands in Brisbane "escape from toytown" has been going since '96 and just finished recording a 3rd album. "alien virus" since '92 different material with a similar lineup.
I play bass, guitar, sing, and try other stuff like cello & jugs ,we do all the recordings ourselves.
The style is ,(roughly), melodic experimental punk/folk? Ilike any music that is played with artisitic integrity an projects a feeling of love for music.
Mutual support ideas sharing and a bit of a laugh sounds like a good place to start as far as my import/export thing goes with the guild

Thanks to Master B and Farlander for correcting my increasingly bizarre errors
God knows what I was thinking Can I just mumble something about having been very busy lately and then slope off sheepishly?
And rosi, I will be back later in my Guild persona to welcome you formally (although who knows what nonsense I'll come out with when I do )

Hello, I would really like to be a part of the guild.
I am an amateur singer, bassist, rhythm guitarist who also dabbles a bit in piano/keyboard and used to play violin/fiddle.
I'm into Queen (must check out the fan club), amongst many other things. I like rock, pop, classical (or are those the tone settings on my CD Radio/Alarm Clock?) anyway, a wide variety of stuff. Currently I play in a rock-type band & sing in a choir... this weekend we're doing a gospel concert!
What I'm looking for out of the guild... meeting new musical friends, laughs, help on how to - make music on my computer for cheap & how to become a musician who makes money rather than an office wage slave who exhausts himself by spending too much leisure time on music leaving not enough for sleep, eats, relationship with wife etc.
But I don't want to be a mercenary - I'd like to give stuff to the guild too, I just don't know what I've got that would be of value
Must go now - work to do

hello, rooftiler! i'll leave it to danny to officially welcome you to the guild, but for the moment i'm the extremely-bloated-ego-farlander-who's-not-a-bass-player, hello there!
you mentioned making music on your computer - do you do music sequencing then? or would you just like to, and are looking for software?
Please please please can I join, pretty please with sugar on the top & a little glace cherry?

Yes, I would just like to. I am looking for software, preferably user-friendly, ideally free! (the canny Scot shows his true colours)
Also advice on whether my PC has the specs to handle music these days.
I've seen a bit of sequencing done by mates & in a short workshop but really want to get going on doing some myself.
Anyway, i'm sure there are MuG threads I'll need to look back on to see what's already been said before I ask lots of obvious newbie questions... but anything that may help me would be much appreciated!
Cheers

Hi rooftiler
Consider yourself officially welcomed - there is a badge at A434648 to put on your personal space.
I don't remember seeing any conversations on sequencing software, although there has been one on guitar teaching software. Feel free to start a new one, either on the MuG page (U150368), or at AskH2G2 (A148907).

I am an instrumental music teacher, so I play just about every orchestral instrument out there. My first and most dear instrument, the trumpet, is the one I use the most. I have played with symphony orchestras, jazz bands, and concert bands all over where I am.
I enjoy listening to a variety of music. By far, FUNK is the primary listening choice. I dig all forms of jazz (except Ornette Coleman - the free jazz thing just doesn't work for me). My favorite modern band is an alternative band called "They Might Be Giants".
Since I am new to the guild, I am not sure what to take from all this yet, but I look forward to getting to know the other guild members and discovering what everyone has in store!

I play da guitar..
when i was younger, i could see no good reasons why i should´nt become a supastar..
Played with such prominent bands as
"The Coelibat-band-Experience"
"The Screaming NO!-NO!´s"
and "Idiot Bastard Sons"
...Buuut after a few years, i realized,
when listening to the REAL stars, how far the journey was. I simply didnt have the necessary drive to exercise for hours and hours on end, and frankly.. I´m not THAT talented.
So, i decided to earn my livelyhood doing something that i was actually really good at..
But i still play fer fun.
No matter the chosen genre, i think i would be able to pick out something that i really appreciated.
In this very moment i´m listening to Debusseys "clair de lune"
But my favorite sound-pets these days are
RAMMSTEIN
SuperEnergetic Tanz-Metal!
..I really don´t know what i can provide in here, but lemme know. -and besides from snooping around, i have no ambitions for joining.
..anyhoo..
A.D.
