Ythika the purple giraffe - Minister for Unusual Musical Instruments Posted Mar 26, 2003
Hi,
I'm a clarinettist and also play E-flat clarinet - not really through choice more through injury. I know how to play saxophone and own an alto but foolishly lent it to someone a long time ago - oh well, my wrist probably wouldn't let me play it anyway.
I am in a concert band and have played in an orchestra - both amateur. I much prefer to play "classical music" or music that has been specifically composed for a concert band. Alfred Reed is often great fun to play and currently we are having a great time destroying Mendhelsson's Fingal's Cave. I also love to play Stamitz concerto in E-flat for clarinet and piano - I used stomp off in a temper and play it as loud as I could, when I was a teenager.
I tend to listen to more modern music - 60's, 70's 80's and a little extra thrown in.
Maybe something about teaching music to toddlers might be helpful from the Guild. That's if anyone knows anything about it.

Hi Danny B! Great idea, this Musicians' Guild !
I play acoustic guitar, sing and write songs (also collect folk songs from around the world).
At the moment I'm listening to Beth Orton , Gillian Welch (that spelling doesn't look quite right ) and Papa Wemba.
I'm looking forward to being a MuG and invite others to add, remix and altogether join in with the songs I have online (can I mention the website, or is it advertising?)
Cheers!

Hi Danny! Glad you like the website - I'll tell the lovely Gillie to whom all credit is due
'MayDay' is the song on Jukebox, and 'Refugees' and 'Peace Reel' in the exhibition section (sorry, should have said I'm Elfie, short for Elfrida)
I like the Musicians' Guild badge a lot!
Cheers!

Hey...
I'm Darkwin (U223483) and I think the MG is great.
1.What instrument(s) do you play, or want to play? Do you sing?
2.Do you have a favorite composer, musical artist, band, or music genre?
3.Is there anything in particular you would like from the Musicians Guild?
I play the drums and the guitar (mainly riffs and solos). I dont sing full-time, but sometimes - yes, i do. My favorite music is created by Gamma Ray (www.metalprovider.com/gammaray). That's my fansite.
The MG is great, and I'll suggest things as I get into it.

Hello again! (Chords, what chords? )
Just remembered in response to an earlier query, that Atarah ben Tovim has done some excellent work on music with the very young - will look out some titles.

*i* don't have trouble remembering chords... only thing is, my suzuki is *very* hostile towards people who try to play bar chords...

lol... thanks. I normally play with powerchords and modified riffs. (Maybe a mix of powerchords and lead). I play metal so it's a little jumbled up. On top of that, I'm a drummer (that's explains it, doesn't it ).
Watched Hotel California's live video (Hell Freezes Over) once and went OMG Wow... what the electron are they playing!!?? LOL

nylon strings leave pretty interesting marks too you know, elfrida ever had a string snap on you? a steel one?

Elfrida Posted Apr 11, 2003
Oooch! Sounds nasty to me. I haven't (fortunately) be in the way of a snapping steel string but was in the front row of a Billy Bragg gig when he snapped two at once! It was in the middle of 'New Jerusalem' - very impressive!
