An unassuming beginning
When I first looked at this site I had no idea what to expect, being only a newcomer to computers and the web means I feel like I'm groping about like Helen Keller trying to glean some meaning out of what is to me a very remote external universe ,I...it seems bizarre that you may actually be (out, not in that is), there. For a gregarious social adventurer, it is a challenge to get motivated without the physical stimulation of the sight and sound of what I think of as real conversation.I hope I am worth it!
I'm 33 and live in inner city Brisbane, Australia with my beloved partner of 16 years and our 3 kids .
Not much to say about Brizzy but that the sun shines on it's outward banality with astounding persitsance. There is here a kind of cultural compost that, if left for too long in one place soon becomes rancid and infested with disease carrying mozzies. So we spread it around. On back decks, around kitchen tables, at post winter cricket b.b.q.s, and in cafes and beer gardens, we are growing a hybrid variety of cynical optimism that seems to creep quietly through the sub-tropical gullies, crawling behind our wooden stilted houses, searching for light and nutrients under the canopy of exotic weed trees inhabited by upstart imported birdlife, relentlessly overtaking and eventually stranlging it's post colonial host and emerging into the sun, creating a unique new landscape. We hope it will be better than the old one, but, as with all culture that is superimposed, there is always the trouble with what lies underneath; the roots of culture here run deeper than the Great Artesian Basin .
We have a broad community of artists, writers, musicians like myself, scientists of all kinds, community activists (me again), and all kinds of thinkers dedicated to this new civic ecology, and when we can get a cool day or two we might even give the beers a miss for long enough to see it thrive. We'll see.
Something new : here is a pikky of yours truly playing bass in Escape from Toytown at the Anarchist's Ball

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
