I'm just sitting around my apartment thinking about work tomorrow and wondering what it will be like. I only have three days in which to get as much knowledge transfer from the departing network engineer. Then I have to see what I need to do to prepare for an upcoming security audit. Then I get to start implementing changes that are needed. It's going to be a busy few months.

I was just thinking the same thing Lil.
Good night all.

Mornin All
Showery.
Welcome home Teuchter. Marv. Monday again after a quiet but productive weekend. The result of the first Test Match would mystify those not up to speed with the rules. A very exciting last couple of hours and England drew wit the Aussies.

Glad to hear the Towers survived, Teuchter, and welcome back!
Marv, have a great first week, I know you're up to the challenge.
MR, sounds like you're a great mom...and you're probably right that it has to do with having a relaxed attitude. Wish my Mom had been that way, not that I ever had the actual gumption for major rebellion.

A lot depends on the child.
I reckon most kids will push the boundaries as a developmental mechanism which allows them to learn and develop.
I always felt that boundaries gave a child a degree of security but the important thing is that the limits aren't rigid but are elastic enough to be able to give a bit and allow that learning and development.
J and I grew up during a period when children just did what they were told; no discussion, no debate - just obedience.
I often wonder how we'd have turned out had we been brought up within a more elastic environment.

It's the rigidity bit where Dai and I come unstuck: he gets very angry if any little rule is broken, where I'm more inclined to go Oh it wasn't such a big deal...

Welcome back to Blighty, Teuchter.
I start training to take over the cataloguing section today. I managed to get a sideways move during the Library of Doom restructuring, in order to get experience in something new (as the fact that they'd had me doing the same job for nine years was a bad thing). This was achieved by withdrawing my application for my own job!
Unlike most libraries, the person in charge of cataloguing is not a professional librarian, unfortunately, but the experience will be very useful for the future.

But David, doesn't that create a problem for you later?!
Marv, have a great first day!!
And now I'm going to go to bed. Up way too late -- as usual.

Back home after a lovely island (Ven) weekend.
Participants: Myself, My love R (Hawaiian of Japanese descent), his mates Kogs (South African, of Indian (Sri Lanka) descent), Eddy (from Indonesia) and Sten (purely Swedish as far as I can tell), also Eddy's son Rosman and Rosmans wife.
The food that gets cooked in the presence of this gang is beyond belief , and the stories told are mind boggling
.
They were all connected to the International Students house in Lund in the late sixties and the seventies, and have many memories and connections since then. One of their old mates is now president of an african country, one is ambassador, one is a multimillionaire. another was imprisoned and deported for fraud and embezzeling (sp?) (wow, the complete psycopath mythomaniac he was), another escaped from prison when claiming to visit these pals. There were fights and biting (drawing blood) and parties and joy, there was setting up hifi speakers in the corridor and playing the sound of a train at max volumes, and seeing the african students peek out, and next morning being told that there was *actually* a train, the wind draft was so strong, it slammed my door shut! There were beautiful japanese women (one the daugher of a well known major car company) and much flirting...
I should have recorded all their memories and written them down, but for now I'm just happy to have been there to listen. And laugh.

MR, no it doesn't create a problem. I couldn't get a professional post here because I didn't have enough experience of anything other than the job I've been doing for the past 9 years. So I made sure I got moved to a different job (which was risky, I know, as I could have ended up without a job at all) which requires different skills. It's still not a professional post, but involves library skills which are often required for the sorts of professional positions I'd find interesting. It still means I'm a professional librarian in a non-professional role, but should mean I have more chance of getting one now.
Hmm, that all looks as clear as mud, doesn't it? And this is me writing about it when I'm calm! When it first happened, I was a very, very angry librarian, not least because one of the people on the interview panel, who told me that I didn't have enough experience, had denied me experience in other library areas when asked! Oh, I was cross!

That sounds like a fun meeting, Milla.
Not surprised you were spitting mad, David. Are you still actively searching for a new job, or will you wait until the catalouging thing looks meaty enough on your CV?

And (sorry) I can't tell if the Star is difficult or not. He's a handful and I do occassionally feel a bit wistful when observing the babies at our baby groups (seemingly all of them except the Star) who placidly sit there and don't try to escape, rush around and poke everyone and everything is sight, but he's also quite a jolly, sociable little thing who I rather like. Mind you, he's becomming quite wilful at meal times and I do forsee some mighty battle of wills in the future. I suspect his difficult phase is just beginning. Although if he's anything like B I suspect he'll make a dredful teen too, although perhaps not for me. *Feels sorry for the Star's future teachers*
