Still morning here in Little DooDah and a hot, muggy one at that. Also a busy one. So bye for now. I hope everyone has a good weekend.

They eat them? You mean Jiminy, with all his talk about encyclopedias, actually meant to ~~~destroy~~~ books?! That's awful. I've had a problem with crickets getting in the house this summer.

It may be 21:15 GMT - but it's 04:15 Beijing time and I've been awake for nearly 24 hours
Did you see me waving, Santra? The upgrade fairy deserted us on this occasion but we had good seats and the journey wasn't bad.
Despite getting off the plane first, through immigration before the meanderthal hordes and into baggage reclaim before anyone else, we were stymied by our bags being the last to appear on the carousel. That was the upgrade fairy sticking two fingers up at us and saying "Yis've had yer lot. Bog off."
Must. Sleep.

Quiet afternoon here, eh? I'm annoyed because I completely forgot about the thoughtlessness of children. Landlady's daughter is looking after two preteens for a neighbor, and the two of them wandered into my house last Thursday afternoon. Unbeknownst to me, Landlady had just ordered them out of her house because they had been fiddling with things and managed to 1. mess up her tv remote and 2. somehow hit the child lock on the washing machine in such a combination with the other buttons that the appliance was totally inaccessible.
I had just received a netflix dvd that morning and wasn't planning on watching it till this evening. So I offered to let them watch it (not knowing about the remote messup), pretty much to get them out of my hair since I was still working on my disability app. "Bring it back later!" I called after them as they filed out of the house.
Needless to say, it's Saturday and I am movie-less. Landlady's daughter didn't know about the "later" part of the loan and let them take it home with them on the understanding that I was to get it back today. Hah. Other people's children! Now all I have to worry about is that they don't put the dang thing in the mail before I get a chance to see it. Landlady and daughter have gone to Santa Fe to browse a folk art festival and won't be back until very very late, so I have no way to get through to the kids' father.
These little things are annoying way outside what they would normally be, when your mobility is limited. At the moment I could cheerfully tear those kids' heads off with my teeth.

I saw a local production of Boogie Nights (nothing to do with the film - I really would *not* want to see a stage version of that!) today. It was very curate's egg. I also ate extremely good raspberry ice cream, from an Italian place in Folkestone. So, so, so, so good!

I think when giving kids instructions it's a good idea to pretend they are very literal, very stupid robots.
Do not touch the phone. Yes, ok, if Mummy says it's ok, then you can use it. Yes, if the house is burning down, then you must phone 999. Yes, if Daddy says you need to dust it, you can touch it. And if Sammy knocks it off the table, then you should pick it up. But apart from that, don't touch the phone. Yes, allright, if...
We went to see the fourth plinth on Trafalgar Square yesterday.

Not terribly impressed by the entrants while we were there. A 20 something blonde talking on her mobile and drinking a bottle of champagne followed by a 20 something blonde talking on her mobile. Still, we have applied ourselves now so clearly the quality will go up.

Sol is right.l Instructions for children have to be very clear and take into account all possible exceptions.
When my children were still small, I used to tell them something, and then I asked: what did I just tell you? In nine cases out of ten they hadn't listened.
