Ooooo, mosquitoes. Don't get me started. I hate the critters. Sure, birds and bats eat them, but what good are they *really*.

I'm with you. The high pitched whine, the diseases they carry...I'm sure birds and bats could find something else to eat, right?

I'm sure they could.

I have replaced the power adapter, CPU fan, and keyboard in my laptop. It is now fully functional again!

It was a long day, and tomorrow will be longer still. But it was a good day. Lots and lots of work to do. Some of it needs to be done very very quickly.

Sounds good, Marv.

*not fond of mosquitoes, either*

Here, many scouts drop out around 13 also. We seem to have found some kind of good formula - I'd say we keep 80% of them until 16. It's hard to say why of course, but I like to believe that it's because we a) have created a troop (12-16 years old) with a strong sense of "sticking together" and because we deliberately push them in the sense that we throw them into new experiences so that their horizons broaden and they (maybe not consciously) learn something.

That was a rather long sentence, wasn't it?

In case you want to see a little of what a 20,000 scout camp is all about, here's something - http://dds.dk/blaasommer/index.php?id=105. The blog made by a UKian and an Australian is actually quite nice and gives the odd insight into the strange world of Danes smiley - winkeye

I finally got my movie back. Won't make that mistake a second time.

The problem with fridge cleaning is that nobody knows because you have to keep the door closed.

*I* know. And boy howdy, it feels good. I'm going to do the freezer, too...I know, hold me back!

Actually, it stems from something my mother said to me when she was here for my graduation. She said "you have a lot of food for someone who lives by themselves." And for some reason, that really got to me. There's actually very little in my fridge, very little.

Showery.

I certainly did see you Baggers, I was up at the Ayrs waving my red spotted hanky, until it got a bit damp, the hanky that is.

Where I was brought up we had Arrow park on our doorstep. In the main avenue there is a statue of a scout, standing on a stone plinth, with an arrow carved on it. It commemorates the world scout jamboree of, I think, 1952? We were told there was a golden arrow inside the plinth. Very frustrating for young Scousers trying to work out how to liberate it smiley - smiley

Well, I'm basically stuck in a job I dislike (apart from my lovely colleagues) with no real experience of any other kind of library work, so I will only ever be able to get a job doing things I don't like doing! I suppose I could try and be a subject librarian, but I don't have the confidence (or the experience, really).

I would like to do cataloguing, but I have no way of getting the experience in my current job. I'm currently trying to teach myself by reading, but it's not a substitute for experience.

I think my motivation for wanting to be a cataloguer is probably wrong, in that I just don't want to have to deal with the public so much (!) but I also find it interesting and I think I would be better suited to it than what I do now. I should have just done it in the first place, but I didn't get on very well with the cataloguing module at library school and just took the first job I was offered anyway (which was not a professional post!).

Aggh. Sorry. Rant over.

I hope you enjoy your training, David.

Why is it raining now I need to go out?

Beer gives much cheer,
and banishes all fear.
Especially the best smiley - ale, premier,
but it can be quite dear.
But it's worth it for the amber nectar,
from the specialist sector.
So let's raise up our glasses for real ale,
which will always prevail and never fail.
