>is baffled that south town is north, ...
The names of the towns refer to the area in Denmark they're home for - as we're from the Eastern side of Denmark, we'll be staying in the East City...
Each city is divided into subcamps, each with 3-6 scouting groups. Funnily enough, at least two cities have used island names for their subcams - we'll be staying at/on/in Corsica in the East City but I'm rather sure that there is another Corsica elsewhere
Makes it important to have true navigational skills for returning to the (right) tent at night...

More stormy weather in my wee spot on the planet.
There aren't nearly as many scout troops here as there were even 10 years ago. Only one boy scout troop left. There are just too many other things for kids to do, I suppose. Our schools keep the kids busy 24/7 it seems. Unlike many parts of the world, the churches here are still healthy and schedule tons of kids events. Then there are all of the sports leagues for kids. The library has a lot of competition when it comes to attracting kids to our programs.
Speaking of, and combining elements of the above...in the Glory Hallelujah category, we only have three weeks left of summer reading programs. This week we're teaching them how to tap dance, which falls into the "Have you lost your mind?" category.
Hope you had a great b'day, Vip.

I had a relaxing day. I still had to go to work, but in the evening we just went to the social club, played pool and a couple of games of dominoes. I even won the dominoes, which is a novelty.
We were thinking of volunteering as Scout leaders, actually. We both loved being Scouts as kids (I was one of the first Girl Scouts).

GDZ will probably attest to this as well, but Scouting was a big part of my life growing up. The friendship he and I forged primarily in our scout troop is one that has persisted through fire and storm for over twenty years. I was active in the BSA and Order of the Arrow till I was 18. At one point there were but three scouts in my troop, but the troop is strong today and still active for the better part of a century.

minichessemouse - Ahoy there me barnacle! Posted Jul 14, 2009
I grew up in guiding Practically begged my mum to get me into rainbow guides (5-7 year olds) then moved up through the sections till I was 13 and our guide pack closed because the leaders didn't want to run it anymore. Then when I was 14 my big sister asked me to help out with her brownie gude pack, which I did for four yers. We lived in a very small town with little to do so the pack was always full and we sometimes had a waiting list. I got involved in Scouting about two years ago and went along to a Cub-Scout group for about 8 months. My current flatmate is quite involved in Scouting and has found us a group to help out with come September.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Jul 14, 2009
Bloody job market... spend this morning traipsing round the agencies only to be told that they're not taking on any new people and to just email them my CV and they'll see if they find anything.
On the plus side the one person who asked for a paper CV said "this is bloody good" under her breath when she was reading it.
And because I'm not eligable for redundancy I get diddly-squat when I finish the current job so if I can't find anything in time then, well... I guess we can wave goodbye to being able the pay the mortgage.

But there's actually not a lot of stuff in my pantry, either. Just bulk stuff of certain things: chicken broth, green beans, chicken and tuna. Oh, and all of D's random things.

I can indeed attest to that Marv.
Hope everything works out Mr. D

I tend to keep my birthdays fairly quiet.
That's hard, Mr D. I got lucky with my temp placement - and that's the only job four agencies have managed to get me in eighteen months. Temping agencies simply don't have anything right now.
