*waves to everyone*
Well, I got Frank home from the hospital on Monday and had to readmit him on Friday. They sent him home with a blood clot in his left leg. I feel like I'm caught in one of those TV Land marathons but can't decide if it's St. Elsewhere or the Three Stooges.
His platelet count was up to 45,000 this morning, which is the highest it's been since his surgery. Normal is between 160,000 and 450,000. So, that's good news. And his appetite is finally back.
The blood clot is a result of the heparin. Since heparin and/or coumadin is the normal treatment for blood clots, and since he can't have either drug they're giving him a drip of a drug called refludan which is a leeching agent. His hemotologist said it's a wonderful drug but isn't used very often because it's so expensive. When I asked how expensive she said that I don't want to know. So getting the bill will be an adventure. He's getting a bag of the stuff every 6 hours.
I have no idea how long he'll be hospitalized this time. But whatever happens, I'm going to have to go back to work soon. I don't like to get online at home because my processor is so slow it drives me crazy. At work I have a T-1 and a new computer. I'm spoiled. But, I think Santa is bringing me a new computer for Christmas.

Hypatia, I hope that your husband is well enough to come home soon. I am glad to hear that he is begining to be on the mend. You and he are in my thoughts.
I had to babysit a friend of mine last night through a very bad drunk. He is in the middle of a nasty divorce and he needed someone there to help him through it.

I'm falling ill very quickly. Fortunately (?), I already arranged to go see my biker chick doctor tomorrow morning, to pick up a photo she wants done. I know that by then I will have a full-blown case of pharyngitis.

* for Lil*
Interesting entry Coely - I think I'll use the other spice bag tomorrow to make sure my cold is leaving me alone... 'green curry'
*mumble, grumble*
Seems my antivirus programme messed up my upgrade to Windows 98 - when I restarted my computer I ended up with only a diskette and a CD-Rom drive - no C: drive in sight!
Ludwig was able to guide me through a re-install over the phone - but all my settings were gone (had to re-install my modem among other things) and to judge from the little space I have left on my C-drive Windows 98 has been installed twice - now, if I could just figure out which files to delete...

Hypatia, what trials and tribulations, but it looks like two steps forward and only one back now instead of the other way round. Perhaps the Docs could cut costs by just going for the leeches
coely, garlic extract (allicin) is now being used in trials to defeat MRSA, the superbug in Hosps. Don't get me started on that one, the family had it over lunch! Can't get the link up to the article though.
Lil, perhaps you had better join T in gargling aspirin, Hati too. I do hope you are all better very quickly.

Oh - I knew there was something I forgot to comment - I hope your husband will continue to improve little by little, Hypatia!

Nora - back from the Dublin meet! Posted Dec 16, 2002
Hoping that all those who are ailing get better soon. I haven't read the curry entry properly, but it looks neat!
I had my wisdom teeth out a couple of days ago - not fun, but better than I thought it would be. Other than that, my visit home is going OK. The weather's marginally better here than in Ireland, and it's great to see my parents, but I miss my routine.
Are there any root beer floats left?

Oh, Nora! Here. Take this one I just prepared. I'll go back and fix myself another...

I just bought and put together a new desk for my computers. It was an effort but at last it is done. Pictures forthcoming when I can find my camera and the software for it.

Thinking of you and Frank, Hypatia, and wishing for continued improvement (overall).
Today I get my passport back. I hope. I especially hope as I had to prostitutre my niceness rating with santa in favour of exploding a bit of a firework in the recruitment deparment. The trouble with teaching people how to write really snotty letters of complaint is that I can whip up a real doozy... It was very very satisfying though.

Glad to hear things are improving Hypatia, not if only we can get rid of all these colds.
Bought myself a trackball mouse thingy yesterday for home. Still getting used to it, but it glows an entertaining red colour, which is nice.
Two Towers is out on Wednesday. Can I contain my excitement, I think not.

Both sons have those glowing mouses (mice?). I have enough trouble acidentally clicking either of the two buttons on my ancient one, without the two extra thumb ones to get into problems with
Looks like we shall have to replace our dvd player, it seems to have problems with the layers mid-disk. We have had it for about 3 years I think and has been occasionally a bit jerky. Last night during SW Attack of the Clones it lost the picture entirely. The disk worked fine on my PC though and the PS2.
