It basically involves the normal stress test, ie. treadmill, but on this occasion they inject a trace amount of nuclear material that shows up on a special x-ray type camera. If you're not able to use a treadmill then they can do same test by injecting an additional drug that simulates physical activity and they increase the dose to increase work level of the heart. It only becomes painful if you actually get chest pain during the test in which case the test will be stopped immediately. Its done usually under supervision of a cardiologist especially if you're already on medicines to treat the heart. In my case I was kept in overnight but then we knew about damage to my heart just not the extent and how many arteries/veins were affected. I was banned from the treadmill due to the severity of my condition and the nuclear test confirmed a lot of damage hence non-operable other than emergency by-pass if main arteries fail again.

Back to the this morning, hopefully he'll have news of the next test but as I haven't had an ECG in 7 years I am going to ask to have another. Then wait for the appointment letter
