I was browsing through [url removed by moderator], my favourite searching machine, looking for images and articles about s-f and found the link to h2g2.
It was a fascinating idea and I discovered a wonderful community in here, so... since 12th of May 2000 I got really addicted to h2g2.

"I was using the babelfish translator service on altavista (very useful freebie) and linked though there to find this wonderful place."
"Greetings to all, Hike on, forever!"

I was enticed but I can't remember who by. And it was only a few days ago.
If I wanted to is there any way of escaping?

While looking for pics of the pope so I could steal his clothes, the ICQ search engine referred me to an ICQ user who told me to check Altavista. I did. I liked it, I used it when I needed to translate some things into French and Italian. Hit the button in bablefish, and Voila! I was here. Love it!

There are easier ways! That one wins a prize for the most complicated. Don't quite see why you had to translate into French to get hold of the Pope's clothes.

Hi Trillian!
To clarify: Needed the popes clothes to make a pic I was working on, and needed Babelfish for correspondence with ICQ friends. And, since I am a cybermoron who just pushes buttons to see what'll happen next, I often find myself on unexpected adventures. This is just one of them

I saw the launch programme on Tomorrow's World, but we didn't have internet access then, so I forgot about it soon after. Then when we got internet access I was looking to see if there was any stuff on Hitchhiker's, and lo and behold there was h2g2.com in the search results, and the Tomorrow's World programme came flooding back into my memory so I came straight along and registered. And here I am. Must be just over a year since I joined now.

Ooh - digging up old threads?
Actually, there has since been a Guide Entry written on this subject.
Only I can't find it.

I doubt if anyone joined H2 the way I did. I saw Mr Adams on Tomorrow's World talking about his baby many years ago, and though "Sounds good, I'll join that!". Procrastination led to procrastination and there hasn't been a month in my diary since that hasn't had "join H2" in it. I finally got round to it in February this year!

Although there was a time before than when I signed up for a couple of days but decided I wanted to cancel. I started a thread to ask how I could do that. I wonder what happened to that?
Only kidding

It was advertised at the very end of the BBC2 Doulas Adams memorial/biography programme. And so I came.

I was fiddling round on the internet one day at work and ended up on the BBC Communicate page. I scanned down it and saw that there was something written on there about the perils of am-dram lighting, which having encountered I decided to read. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A701047
I chuckled my way through the entry and then started to navigate round the site. After a month or so of lurking I decided to register and join in.
