we used to practice for exactly that kind of scenario when I was in the military - but everyone knows that if their mates are in there nothing will stop a soldier running towards a blast.

I doubt that I would have the presence of mind to rush in to help in an emergency. My mind just doesn't run that well when I'm in shock. But I've always been the guy who spreads information as widely as possible, connecting people. Maybe that would help.

"Another Twitter user asked, “Are you ALREADY BLAMING MUSLIMS??” – to which Rush reportedly responded: "Yes, they're evil. Let's kill them all." "
An appalling act committed by unknown assailents and this extremist cynically uses it to call for acts of genocide - echoes of burning the Riechstag or what.
While I admire the US insistence on absolute freedom of speech sometimes it goes to far and I am quite happy to know if he spouted that evil hate mongering in the UK he'd be looking at a prison sentence.

The minister who spoke at my mother's funeral has often been called to preside over ecumenical services. I asked him one time why Muslims were not included in ecumenical services. He explained that some Muslims would like to attend, but they were afraid to. I told him that this made me very sad. Religious extremism seems a very great evil in my opinion. It gets the upper hand when people are afraid to connect with people of other religions. Isolation prevents people from realizing how much they have in common.

An arrest has been made in the bombings case.
Independent videos appear to have provided the information in identifying the responsible party.

Well, CNN is falling all over themselves retracting that statement.
False alarm.

Meanwhile, there are areas of the city that are roped off. Copley Square is a beautiful and popular place to walk through at this time of year. The big hotels that face the square are likely suffering from being closed. The Boston Public Library is a major facility that thousands of Bostonians need. I hope the investigation will be finished before too long.

I'm hoping you are safe and sound and don't live anywhere near the part of town that is more or less under siege at the moment

Um, you wouldn't catch me being anywhere near the Boston Marathon route on Patriot's Day. I had more than enough exposure to the Marathon during the eight years when I lived on Beacon Street in Brookline. I would forget that a race was going on, and I'd go to cross the street to the supermarket, wondering why so many people were on the street.

Glad you are safe, Paul.
Personally I would stay at home until the suspect is apprehended. Probably cowering under my bed. With a blanket. Until I have to go relieve myself.

I would do as clzoomer would. Taking lots of bottles with me so I *can* relieve myself, which I might have to do often...
But man, what a craze going on right now. Hope there aren't going to be any more shootouts and molotov-throwings. Stay safe, paulh.
