Where did you last eat out?

You can call me TC

Everyone who's ever eaten out anywhere should be compelled to write a Milliways report.

That reminds me - I still need to write up that Indian restaurant run by the zombies, if only to warn off other unwary travellers.

airscotia-back by popular demand

I went to the 'Mill on the Exe' pub in Exeter on Tuesday last, and had an oddly mixed experience.
The food was what someone from the South would call 'A tad overpriced' and someone from the North would call 'A reet rip-off'
£8.25 for a crab sandwich, and £3 for a pint mug (half full) of chips to accompany.
Very average food (except for the price).

However. Very nice beers, fantastic location overlooking the river Exe at the weirs, and very friendly, polite and helpful staff.

airscotia says; Have a beer and take in the view........pass on the food.

I was going to say pizza express, but actually it was just the boys that ate there, I just had a coffee.

In which case it would have been the Kings Arms in Cookham - lovely beer garden, nice menu, great kids menu and a *really* good climbing tree to keep the boys busy while we eat.

The Shenaz Indian restaurant in Glasgow about a month ago. It was pretty good, if not spectacular, like most Indians in Glasgow.* Was about £25 for 2 courses, including drinks, so decent if not fabulous value.

*BTW, Glasgow has a really good reputation for curry houses, and having been to most in the City Centre, I'd pretty much agree. But how do they compare to elsewhere? Anyone know?

I ate in Clydebank, rather than Glasgow, but I was pretty impressed. They had about 8 different types of chicken tikka masala.

Went to Aagrah's in Shipley on Thursday. The food was nice but if I'd have been paying full price I'd probably consider it a rip-off. Very expensive for Bradford.

A couple of weeks ago I went to TGI's in Covent Garden/Leicester Square. Bloomin expensive (though the school was paying) and pretty average food. Some of the cocktails looked lovely but I wasn't allowed to try them.

*feels nostalgic for Bradford and Birmingham curries*

There are compensations: Edinburgh is awash with good sushi though.

So how do Weegie curries stack up in the greater scheme of things then Ben? Never been for one outside Glasgow funnily enough, so I really dunno how they compare.

Well, it's ten years since I did most of my dining in Glasgow, which is shocking, really.

Actually make that 12.

Highlights were the Malmaison where a working girl tried to pick up the blokes in the party (one of them thought he'd pulled... bless....) and a Chinese run by the Triads in Bath Street, or thereabouts.

The food I don't remember quite so well.

You're lucky enough being in Edinburgh, because you're in shooting distance of my all-time favourite eatery, Kublai Khan in Leith.

Weegie Curry Houses are good but a victim of their own hype. The best curries I've had were at a Sikh working men's club in Birmingham and a "private" curry club in North London. Both had an overwhelmingly Asian clientele and white people were strictly by invitation only.

*You* got invited?! effers' sake!smiley - winkeye

One reason I'm a bit suspicious of Glasgow Indians is that there are *never* any Indians in them, rather unlike the Chinese places. A friend said once it's cos all the dishes are full of cream and ghee, which most Indians don't use.

...but if you'd asked in a couple of weeks I could have answered "The Fat Duck" which I'm really looking forward to. It better bloody taste good after such a phenomenal amount of fuss and 3 michelin stars.

I adore this place. I approve because it is that rarest of things in London, somewhere that is clearly thriving without feeling the need to charge the absolute earth. Plus their specials board is always different. Even the Star likes it. He sat through a three course meal and coffee the other month without becoming obnoxious, mainly due to the enormous plate of superior macaroni and cheese they gave him and the fact that the place was full of amiable people who were happy to smile at him.

The only problem with it is that I seem to end up there a lot when I'm pregnant, and there are a lot of things on their menu pregnant women shouldn't eat.

The Fat Duck? Ooooh. You'll have to find this thread again then if it's disappeared. Inquiring minds need to know.
