Soul Coughing lyrics - Supra Genius

"Will you shoot the blue earth down?
In the space station
Polishing the ray gun
You say collelation is not causation"

A bit off topic, you made me think of it smiley - erm

Back to the topic, I'd like to know where all you guys live!!

Personally, I'd rather be slim (not skinny) than plump or curvey.

I think that slim women are very attractive, much more than curvey women, just my humble opinionsmiley - biggrin

There's a thread for you:

I think slim women are also attractive and that being curvy doesn't necessarily mean a woman has to be 'plump' (though being plump and curvy can also be very attractive).

I just find it odd when models like Giselle or Naomi are referred to - in the press - as being 'curvy' when they are straight up and down skinny. To me they look like teenage boys with breasts (their bodies, I mean).

I saw an anorexic manniquin when I was shopping the other day. It was *so* skinny and bony

It made me feel so sorry for kids that think that being a normal weight is *fat* because they don't look like that, or models or actresses who are 20 or 30 pounds underweight

my cousin's daughter is nine, and is dieting hard because she reads those dumb teenie mags that tel her to... She almost fainted and fell of her horse when we were cantering through the woods (could have been a bad accident!) becaus she hadn't eaten that day...

It's insane!

And the magazines don't think that there's anything wrong with it!

I am so sick of going to the shops and seeing 9-12 year olds in clothes *I* wouldn't wear, skinny as rakes, poor kids.

All in all, I have a feeling that childhoods are disappearing.
It's "fun" to observe ten- to twelve-year-olds at the swimming pool: the ones in bikinis desperately necking with their immature boyfriends obviously watch too much TV and read the wrong kinds of things, while thos still pretending they're pirates and horsing around seem to have been allowed to remain children...

i think there should be more bigger models, because you dont have to be skinny to be beautiful

The problem is that society accepts the difficult to attain as beauty, beauty=rareness. In the Middle Ages, pallor was beautiful because it means you're not a peasant who has to go work in the weather, now a tan is in, it implies that you can afford to go somewhere expensive on holiday. Yet another part of the recurring theme of usccess being attractive! Thinness is similar, with today's absolute glut of high calorie foods readily available, staying slim requires work and time and self control...

Maybe it comes from being in a bit of a student bubble, but I see a lot more thin people than I do fat.

Same here - but why would that make a difference?

Maybe because students tend to come form higher-income families, who can afford to live healthily? (High-calorie food is often cheap and quick)

The Psycho Chicken -- self respect intact

Not sure how much the social background of the student has to do with it - that could go either way.

Just being a student could affect size either way too - the low income of a student could lead to them losing weight by not eating properly, or gaining weight by choosing cheap, quick alternatives.

I certainly fell into the latter category when I was a student. Sadly I've never quite recovered from it either.

I seem to have gone down that path myselfsmiley - erm

An American college student was recently diagosed with a disease that shouldn't occur in our society: scurvy! He'd only been living off fast food for a year...

Scurvy? If he had chosen his fast food better - a couple of packets of crisps should give you your daily vitC allowance...

Well it would mean that thin people aren't rare and exotic.
