Actually I did over dramatise it.

They only operate on girls with very ambiguous genitalea, 60% will be able to have clitorial orgasms in later life, and we don't know what psychological trauma would occur if they were not operated on. There are acedoatal reports of parents refusing to take their children home from hospital, and children dying of infection because relatives won't change nappies (both have been told to me by doctors).

They come under quite incredable pressure from parents who are very upset by it.

One of the surgeons here has given up operating because he thinks it's wrong. The others try and avoid it if they possibly can. They're certainly not as happy to do it as they used to be. Some girls who aren't operated on are really traumatised by the experience.

I really can see both sides of the argument.

Z, when you say "we don't know what psychological trauma would result if they weren't operated on", are there not examples of girls that weren't operated on who can be looked at for comparison?

Not yet,

Well not that have grown up anyway.

There are one or two, that have posted their stories on the internet but no one has gathered it together into a study (yet).

Ssome women who don't have the surgery in chlidhood wish that they had. They felt they hate their clitoris and it ruined their lives, they were bullied at school because of it, they knew they were different.

Some women are glad they haven't had surgery, we don't know which will be more common.

Until recently all girls were operated on. A few years ago (I think five) more parents started refusing the operation, and now one of the surgeons here at BCH won't operate, this is one of about four centres for treatment of intersex, so it seems that

i go out for a few hours...just a few hours and i come back to 70 + thingamawotsits......

you lot sure know how to blab on

interesting re: the op for babies..based on the female genitalia that i have seen so far in my (short smiley - smiley) life, there is definitely DEFINITELY no 2 the same
so size could be an issue in all manner of respects in women too, reverting back to the original topic.. there's lots of things we could and are not happy about with our own bodies, sexual organs being part of that...
can i cast my vote in the 'leave well enough alone' and let them do something (or not) about it when older...like you say if it doesn't grow with the child's body, surely everything will become more 'normal' so to speak in time..

ok..i know nothing about these things, but having watched lots of programmes where babies were operated on to make them look nore 'normal' down there, and then came back in later life to have a go at the people that decided what they should look like.....
well..it's a bit of a difficult one to call, but..

hey..
look at that
it's the weekend

Some interesting and informative posts and not quite sure where to start! Perhaps I'll go back to the smiley - bubbly/bubbles post.......Ann Summers have something called 'pleasure gel' which has a certain stimulating effect smiley - smiley it's a rather nasty green colour but mint flavoured and certainly reaches the parts..........smiley - evilgrin

Threesomes etc smiley - erm.....not something I've done in RL altho I have to confess it has featured in fantasies......not involving other women tho, that doesn't float my particular boat I'm afraid! Not entirely sure that reality would be as good as fantasy, at least in fantasy you're in control of the scenario smiley - smiley

There are a couple of subjects that I'd rather not touch on or else I might be smiley - ill all over my keyboard which I'm sure wouldn't go down too well with work smiley - sadface

Both times Ive been offered threesomes by ex-girlfriends while they were drunk they have been frosty with me about the whole situation in the days followingsmiley - erm

Even thogh I turned down the chance of pleasing and being pleased by two ladies.

I got an even worse reaction when I caught an ex-ogling a guy who looked not disimilar to me and offered to allow her alternative arrangements for a night if she liked or even a double helpings if she prefered.

She hit the roof and said Id got her all wrong. She was absolutely right, what she prefered was waiting a few months dumping me having a secret affair with her married boss and making booty calls to me.

From what Ive seen and this is only my iinterpretation but women are on the whole not so territorial as men tend to be but they are more possesive about concepts and dont want other people to think of them in a certain way even if its the way they are.

Two of mine have gone - I assume a mod is working their way though and sanitising the thread so that we don't get spotted by a Daily Snail reader, who then writes to the Director General, Ofcom, the Vatican, and God, and gets the BBC shut down leaving h2g2 smouldering in the embers.

I hope the thread amuses them as much as it has amused us. smiley - smiley
