There are some monumentally bad lyrics out there, so have at it!

I hate

And I know that you feel it too
When my skin turns into glue

from the White Stripes, "In The Cold Cold Night", but I'm sure there are a lot worse out there!

I love you baby like a schoolboy loves his pie
I love you baby, river deep mountain high

Famous tautologies -

"4am in the morning, carried away by a moonlight shadow." Mike Oldfield

"She never drinks the water, makes you order French champagne." Ricky Martin

"And in this ever-changing world in which we live in." Wings

The line from 'Live and Let Die' is:

'And if this ever-changing world in which we're living...'

...and is therefore grammatically correct! smiley - geek

"Take me to New York, I'd like to see LA"

In the car the other day my 14 yr old daughter pointed out that you can't see LA from NY. Ah, so proud that I have taught her the art of pedantry!

I've seen bag, tie, and pet, but I'm sure it's pie.

(Why would a schoolboy love his bag or his tie?)

I remember the NME back in the late 80s used to run a column on bad lyrics that was highly amusing.

The trouble is they entitled it 'Bismillah! We will not let him go!"

Which annoyed me seeing as that's from just about my favourite song ever. But then the music press always did have a ridiculous hatred of Queen above all others...

I suppose the all time classic for me is 'Isn't it Ironic' by Alanis Morissette where the only irony is the fact that nothing in the lyrics is actually ironic, they're either just situations which are unfortunate (rain on your wedding day) or just plain weird (10,000 spoons when all ou need is a knife).
I have to admit to still quite liking the song though smiley - biggrin

Just Bob aka Robert Thompson, plugging my film blog cinemainferno-blog.blogspot.co.uk

Idlewild were always annoying for contradictions:

"I am what I am not."

"...And if a word like that can ever mean anything AT ALL,
I'm on my way out."

I seem to recall ABC winning some kind of "worst lyric of the year" award - not sure if it was from the NME or not - for the truly appalling couplet:

Can't complain, mustn't grumble,
Help yourself to another piece of apple crumble

Wasn't it Procul Harem's "Whiter Shade of Pale" that had even the band members (including the lyrics writer) scratching their heads as to what the song was all about?
