They wouldn't have used carbon dating for the Rhine river thing. That can only date things back to about 50,000 years. They talk about sands, there is a method of dating when sand grains were last exposed to light. This can help you date things like riverbeds and dunes. The problem is it only gives you a minimum age, not an upper limit. Perhaps they used this first.

Perhaps this is not unique, but I can't remember hearing about a similar thing. The criminal organisation in Sweden known as Black Cobra, has decided to cease operations. According to the "newspaper" Sydsvenskan, the leaders of the gang are disssolving it and they even intend on gathering up the Black Cobra shirts of the members so they can't be used by others. Though I suppose that doesn't mean the members will necessarily decide to become law-abiding citizens.

Doh!
Whoever put out the hurdles for the 100m Women's hurdles in the Manchester Games, miscounted and only put out 9 per lane instead of 10.
(I am thinking that they must have wondered why they had hurdles left over when they had finished putting them out).

I'm surprised the athletes didn't notice, surely they've trained for hundreds of hours with 10 hurdles; although I suppose we can't expect them to be able to count to ten, if they spend all their time training instead of studying elementary maths.

One of the athletes did notice the lack of a hurdle:
"Organisers only confirmed the error about 30 minutes after the race, although Kelly Sotherton, Ennis’ fellow heptathlete, was quick to point it out on Twitter.
The 2004 Olympic bronze medallist, who famously nicknamed Ennis ‘tadpole’ when the face of the London Games was an up-and-coming athlete, said: “That 100mh was great but I’m sure that there was only 9 hurdles not 10. Please someone verify!” "

My sample of 20+ psychologists/psychiatrists indicates a significant likelihood they are nuts as compared with the average population, and I am glad collateral research is being done to show them to also be intellectually dishonest (and/or ignorant of how to use statistics).

I think it means the age they reported 'feeling'
was 1.5 years younger than their actual age.
I don't quite understand the particulars but I
am quick to accept without question that this
supports conclusively what I've always said, that
statistical analysis is pure bunkum. Now we have
these studies to prove it.

No, they were actually 1.5 years younger. It was a deliberately absurd experiment carried out to show how statistics can be misinterpreted.

It does not give the details. For that you would need to look at the 'research' article itself. But the idea is simple: If a sample of a certain size does not give the result you desire, increase the sample size in increments until it does give that result and stop there.

It cannot be a 'fact' that the product 'may' help with a foot fungus. Equally, and not very probably, it could be a 'fact' that barrel of writhing snakes 'may' do the trick.
Notice that no access to the evidence, let alone access to any evidence for its 'claims' is offered.
Scam. The scammer has obviously and clearly mistaken this for an adolescent sci-fi site,

"It cannot be a 'fact' that the product 'may' help with a foot fungus."
I don't see why not: For instance, it's a fact that eating a peanut *may* cause death. But it doesn't cause death for everyone. The logical statement being made is "in some instances, event X causes outcome Y". There is no reason that this couldn't be a "fact".
