I´ve heard from the radio that the Jubilee event has costed 15 million of Euros.

I guess that there aren´t any kind of cuts in education and other social services, and that Britain remains Great economically and the country can waste such amount of money in a glorious vanity.

Oh we're good at spending on glorious vanity -

"The true cost of staging the 2012 Olympics is five times the figure given when London won the bid in 2005. A Sky investigation has revealed the final cost for the Games will be more than £12bn. However, associated costs could make the bill as high as £24bn" http://news.sky.com/home/london-olympics/article/16156780

Not until 2015 though, mustn't breach those precious advertising contracts - I guess they'll simply not sign any new ones...

<'Disney to ban junk food ads from its kid show lineup'>

I had to go to a British supermarket web site to check this. I noticed in the week but couldn't remember detail.

Own brand strawbery flavoured milk - 330 ml £0.50.
Disney strawberry flavoured milk - 250 ml £1.20.

I am guessing that the only difference is a shrink wrap with a picture of a Disney princess on it.

The organisers of the Olympics say ticket sales haven't gone as well as expected.
Hardly a surprise when newly released tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies start at £995.00!! What planet are these folk on charging those sort of prices in a recession?!? smiley - facepalm
Other prices for events themselves range from £20.00 to £720.00 smiley - doh

How can penguins be "depraved", out of interest? Do they have a moralistic code by which their society is governed?

On BBC news last night, I heard "there's been an increase in a tax on guide dogs by other dogs".

Turns out it wasn't 'a tax', but 'attacks'...

I mis-heard the same article on the radio earlier in the day.

Perhaps that simply reflects out current expectations.
