Curiously, 'loitering with intent' is not on the books
in Canada as far as I am aware. From here it sounds like
a very prejudicial and presumptive law designed to harass
and limit freedom of movement and assembly.
It strikes me as an affront to the presumption of innocence.
Mind you, because we cannot act until a crime has actually
been committed, we often hear complaints that police should
have known or done something beforehand.
Happily, we often rely on basic traffic control laws to tell
folks to 'Just move along' and arrest people for 'failing
to follow the directions of a traffic officer'. Works wonders
on gathering mobs.
I can see on telly this morning that there's a large crowd
obstructing traffic and blocking the streets in London.

My 14 year old daughter went on a school trip to the war graves in Belgium. She was very moved by it all - if schools keep this up, they won't be forgotten!
Now, as an antedote to the earlier depressing stories, an "awww!" story:

"Suspended Labour peer Baroness Uddin is set to be allowed back into the House of Lords without repaying the £125,000 she owes in wrongly claimed expenses.
It is understood she claims she cannot afford to make the repayments demanded.
A House of Lords committee banned her from the Lords in October last year until April 2012.
When the ban ends she can return to the House of Lords and claim expenses again without having repaid the money she was told to by the committee."

I am further to the left than the demands of Vancouver's 99%ers. I don't agree with much there. Most things for reform could simply be replaced by a near-starvation diet in prison scheme distributed over the wealthier societal brackets and calibrated by 'stupidest investments and spending' research, plus an agency for assisted home sharing for the poor. Just let capitalists be capitalists until locking some fraction up in their seventies.
