Chicken Run. Not bad, but the Wallace and Gromits were better.

Cassandra's Dream. Almost as good as Match Point smiley - borg Although some actors appeared to play Woody Allen every now and then.

The Bucket List. Nothing unexpected (Spoiler: partly due to A33314933), but still an hour and a half nicely spent.

Judgment at Nuremberg. Very moving, very interesting. I would be curious to know how faithful it was to the actual trials.

I watched 21. It's about smart arse college kids counting cards in Vegas. A very dull, depressingly staid and obvious and painfully long-winded experience only slightly alleviated by the fact the protagonist looks like a young version of my dad.

I can't remember Cube properly. Has it got someone like smiley - ermchunk from the goonies in it?

The first guy to get killed was in "Hard Core Logo". That's about all I remember right now- haven't seen it in nearly 10 years. But I remember enjoying it, at least enough to warrant renting it (eventually- it's toward the middle of the queue).

Watched Hairspray earlier which was very entertaining.

John Travolta's character is *interesting*

I hired "The Good Night" from the library. I wouldn't say it was a waste of my time, my library card was out of date so I got it renewed, but watching the film was! I thought that Penelope Cruz, Martin Freeman, Gwynneth Paltrow & Simon Pegg would equal comedy and/or Hollywood romance. It was neither; few laughs and no romance. It wasn't even "arty" enough to be profound (though the subject matter could have asked some interesting questions.) Danny deVito was excellent and the only noteworthy aspect IMHO.

Just watched Cube Zero. Grimier and gorier than its predecessors, but all the better for it, and you get *some* notion of how it's all gone down. I wouldn't be able to rate any of them higher than any other; they all rank highly on different grounds. But I will say that the music in this one is abysmal.

Bassman - Funny how people never ceases to amaze me!

Anyone see that Rock 'N' Rolla when it was out. It was just fan-tas-tic. I flinched ever time someone got clobbered in a new and inventive way - great entertainment!

I watched "Days of Darkness" or "L'Âge des Ténèbres" last night. It was really interesting. It's a French-Canadian film about a guy going though a mid-life crisis with a VERY vivid fantasy life. It was hilarious and thoughtful. It's not for everyone, but if you like odd indie movies, you will love it!

Not a film, but an episode of Star Trek Deep Space Nine - "Trials & Tribble-ations". Superb - they spliced in old Star Trek film and had modern characters interacting with Kirk, Scotty et al. Seamlessly done, it makes you wonder if they could use the same techniques in other films.

Just seen The Illusionist with Ed Norton and Rufus Sewell. It was a smiley - wow for me on several levels - lavish period drama, the magic trickery, a love story and a good ending smiley - smiley

We've been renting a lot of the old Star Trek TNG episodes lately, so I haven't seen too many films (just three a week). Tonight, we're off to see "Let The Right One In". I'm about to head out... I'll be back to review it tomorrow. smiley - biggrin

Just watched the Rocky Horror Picture Show, in preparation for our New Year gig. We always dress up so you can guess what the theme is this year. It's not the first time we've don this, but it'll be the first time with the new drummer.

We'll play The Time Warp and the best song from the show - Sweet Transvestite.

I've seen that and I agree completely! Fantastic stuff, very inventive.

Re-watched Casino Royale and Wall-E.

The first stood up rather well to a second viewing, and reminded me of how much I enjoy Craig's portrayal of 007.

Wall-E is fab, I may have to buy it for my son at Christmas, and it's possibly my film of the year.

"Låt den Rätte Komma In" ("Let the Right One In"). A sweet Swedish coming of age story about two lonely, outcast pre-adolescent children. One of them is a boy whose parents basically ignore him and classmates torment mercilessly. The other is a beautiful, melancholy girl, on whom he develops his first crush and who just happens to be a vampire.

I thought the cinematography was outstanding (the Swedish winter nights were gorgeous), the chemistry between the two leads impressive, dialog and character development were flawless. The violence, when it's there, is brutal but subdued- underneath it all, the two lead characters are just lonely, innocent children. There are no cheesy special effects, no cheap scares, and nothing gratuitous. The things that happen do because they *have* to.

Without spoiling the film for anyone, there were a couple of specific things I thought were brilliant: the man who arrives with the little girl vampire at the beginning of the film and provides a glimpse of what a future with her would be like; and a scene near the end, which takes place in a swimming pool, that made me laugh out loud with my hair standing on end.

An absolutely fantastic film- I loved it. Recommended!

Mol - on the new tablet

Ooh, I've seen a film within only a few months of everybody else seeing it! We stuck the DVD of Mamma Mia in with the groceries and watched it this evening. DH was somewhat unenthusiastic beforehand, saying it was a chickflick, but whaddyakno - he thought it was brilliant smiley - biggrin

As did all of us. Except Osh, who fell asleep. Not really a film for six year old boys. He kept asking when all the singing would stop.

That's been the sensation of the year, so my wife tells me. It's on track to out-gross Titanic. Some people are coming back 7 or 8 times. They're taking party bookings for Xmas.
