Yeah, the last movie I saw was the Village as well...I still don't know how I feel about that movie...

...I actually went to see it with my brother and sister. They are also unsure as to how they feel about the movie...hmmm...smiley - erm

I saw a LOT of movies this year.

The Village - definitely my favorite. The *twist* may or may not be predictable, but this movie is great for other things: great acting, beautiful cinematography, interesting characters, and GREAT music. Had to run off and buy the soundtrack the next day - something I have not done in years...

Hell Boy - Well, a friend loved it, I did not.

Spiderman 2 - Said friend says it's one of the best he ever saw. I saw it four times, myself, so it cannot be that bad.

Shrek 2 - Funny, really funny. My brother-in-law, who would normally not go near anything that suggests computers were used in the production, loved it, so that is saying something.

Hidalgo - don't go, it's boring.

Kill Bill 1+2 - Cool if you like this sort of thing, which I do.

Riddick - Ridiculous, but in a good way. Buy your ladies a ticket for the next Ben Stiller movie, grab a beer, take your buddies and laugh at an over-the-top coolness that has not been achieved since Rambo 3 (Quote: "It's a blue light." - "What does it do?" - "It shines blue.")

Cannot remember when I saw Hero, but it had its moments. Beautifully shot, exploring the themes of honor and duty. Also, it has a nice quote: "I learned a new technique to kill people." "What is it called?" "Killing at ten feet." "Killing at ten feet? Sounds good!" (poorly remembered, roughly translated). It is worth watching.

Yay! Someone else who liked The Village! I agree, the cinematography was top notch -- I like the way the camera stayed back from the characters in many conversations, letting us take it in, not the frantic head shot/head shot that is so common.

I liked the acting, the cinematography, the idea...I just don't know how I felt about the *script* smiley - huh

JEllen - that's actually quite interesting...Hitchcock in one of his interviews critisizes the way that some directors continually have to cut from one person to another or from close up to mid shot...he said that if there was an argument, the camera should stay on the character and no matter their action, should remain on thier face and not capture the scene. smiley - 2cents

I haven't dared to watch The Village as yet. Not a big Shyamalan fan, I liked the Sixth Sense, hated Signs (haven't seen Unbreakable but heard it wasn't bad)....the trailers for Village aren't appealing and have heard really bad reviews.

Dodgeball was terrible!

I think I'm in a big minority when it comes to Kill Bill. I'm one of the only people I know that liked the first one better than the second one. I'm not a huge Tarantino fan anyway (I'm sick of him 'paying homage' to other directors. He needs to find his definitive style which isn't about copying others)...

Have I annoyed people enough in this post? smiley - winkeye

Shrillian, if it's any consolation...

...I haven't seen the first Kill Bill, but I have seen the second one...and everyone I know tells me I *have* to see the first one because it's *heaps* better smiley - biggrin

That's good to hear. The only other person I know that liked Vol 1 better than 2 is my boyfriend's boss...that's one out of quite a lot of people...smiley - yikes

Definitely watch number one...if not because you may like it better, but just because the whole thing might make more sense... smiley - laugh

Yeah, when the credits were rolling at the end of KB2 I was wondering if we'd somehow managed to miss the first half of the movie smiley - laugh

I was on a date at the time, and didn't want to look like a space cadet, so I calmly watched the credits...all the time thinking I'd lost my mind...until he asked where the first part of the credits were from smiley - laugh

Yes, but who would've thought they'd have the credits for the first movie at the end of the second movie smiley - yikes??

it's because it was actually made as one movie. The production houses (Miramax, A Band Apart, Super Cool ManChu) said that it was too long...so they made it into the two volumes instead (obviously a ploy to make double the amount of money)...

I wish someone had warned me before I started convincing myself I'd actually blacked out during the first half of the movie though smiley - laugh

Good point. Though I've done that a few times. I went to watch Scream 2 with some friends when it first came out at the cinema and had to run to the usher to find out what happened in the first film as out of 5 people, none had seen the first one!

(we were all bored and had seen everything else that was playing)...

Sometimes a sequel can stand alone...most times you need some idea of what's going on...I think that was definitely the case with Scream...even though we hadn't seen Kill Bill, we could make out what was going on...kinda...smiley - laugh

hometime for little tanzens - until later smiley - towel

I've got to bail as well...

I think it was easy to follow with kill bill as they show the beginning of the story in the second one. The second one makes more sense than the first one. Though I loved the references of the first one better than the second. The whole anime sequence was great. smiley - smiley

As to falling asleep in a movie... That happened to me three times. Two times I was jetlagged and the movies were slow (though just how I managed to nod off in Dead Man is beyond me. I was younger then, maybe that's it). The third movie I could not stay awake in was Troy. The parts I did see made me rather angry.

King Arthur had so much potential, and they basically missed every chance they had to make this movie good.

Dawn of the Dead (2004) kinda haunted me for a few days.

The Day After Tomorrow was not as bad as same said it was.

Harry Potter 3, well, if you like the books, you might want to stick to them.

Out of the two Kill Bills, I would hate to have to say which one is better. No1 had by far the better music, more action, more gore. No2 had cooler dialogues, I think. Great camera work in both movies.

About the trailers for The Village... Well, I never really saw any trailers, but from what I hear, they make it appear to be a scary horror kind of film - which it isn't. There are some scary moments, but they are not the most prominent feature of the movie.

The Groob

We watched Flatliners on DVD on Sunday (I've waited since 1990 to see this film) and I enjoyed it.

Before that we saw The Swarm on telly. I've waited since 1978 to see that one and the conclusion is "so bad it's good". A typical line:

"I never though the bees would do this - they're supposed to be our friends"

I went a saw "Hero" last week. Very nice to look at but a bit pedestrian. Also the fighting bits reminded me of "Dragon Ball Z" a bit smiley - laugh.

Watched Kill Bill 1 and 2 back to back last night, when watched like that it is soooooo much better.

In my pile of DVDs are "Shaolin Soccer", "Ichi the Killer" and the "Star Wars Trilogy" boxed set. So I have a busy weekend planned.

I might go and see "Layer Cake" on Thursday.
