Hmm well I did enjoy both "Nemo" and "Monsters Inc" but I found them both to be very much fully childrens films.
Whereas IMHO both the Toy Stories were good enough to be stand alone films that I felt comfortable going to the cinema without kids to watch. I am hopefull that "The Incredibles" will be more in common with them...

Nemo was good - the seagulls were excellent. Monster Inc topped Nemo by a shade, but Ice Age kicked them both into touch Until later...

Grave of the Fireflies is one of my all time favorites. I think it portrays realistically the victims of war and what happens to the general population under such violence. The film tells a story that, while fictional, is all too real in pointing that some of the most tragic victims of war -any war- are children.

Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind touched me deeply when I saw it in the theatre when it came out last spring. I went to see it opening night. It blew my mind. The circular storytelling and layered plot are something I could explore over and over again. Walking out of the theatre that night, I felt like I loved my sweetheart more than I did before I saw the movie. It's not often that movies have such a profound effect on me and I am suprised when they do.
ESoaSM is on DVD now, but I'm holding off till my birthday in hopes someone gets it for me. If not, I'll use my B-Day cash and it'll be my present to myself.

I keep meaning to see Eternal Sunshine, i'll have to pop down the video store and get it some time.
I'll keep an eye out for Grave of Fireflies as well. Is that a Japanese anime?
Has anyone seen the Directors Cut of Donnie Darko? Is it better than the original version? Because some reviews I saw, said they thought that the original was better.

Yes, Grave of the Fireflies is an anime. Stunning animation, too.
If you like anime, another visual treat is both of the Ghost in the Shell movies. They're dark, pretty violent, and have thrilling storylines. They're also COOOOOL to look at. Here in the US, animation is still perceived as being for kids, but that's slowly beginning to change. For fun anime see the TV series FLCL (fooly cooly, or flee clee). It's just plain crazy. Very funny. It was made by a bunch of animators between other projects and they use all kinds of anime styles. The soundtrack rocks, too. It's by the Pillows, a Japanese rock and roll band. I hear they've been around for quiet a while and have a large following over there.
As for Donnie Darko, not my cup of tea. But that's just MHO.

Yes, Ghost in the Shell, classics in the genre. Stunning animations. Has anyone seen Vanmpire Hunter D: Bloodlust? It's an anime with excellent style and mood. It's one of my favorites. (the prequel, Vampire Hunter D, is much less)
As far as animated series go, I was pleasantly surprised by Samurai Jack, on Cartoon Network. I usually don't like the shows they have on there, but this is an exception. The drawing style is very cool, and some episodes are drawn in a different style. Although granted the story isn't very special.

The creator of Samauri Jack also did a series of short cartoons (about 5 minutes each) called Clone Wars. The shorts fill in the time between Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and the upcoming Star Wars movie next summer. The animation is quite imaginative and the storylines are great backstory for Anakin (sorry for any misspellings), the Sith, and the whole Empire/Rebellion. Oddly enough (or not), I find them better than the prequels themselves. Check them out.

I saw top gun last night, it was not all that good, pretty bad story line, not worth much in my mind.
Ice age was good, I agree.

Oh, forgot to say that I saw Tape last night. It's a very simple film, unity of time, place, subject and all that. Basically, it all takes place in a motel room, and there are no time leaps. It's just conversation, but somehow still entertaining. It was good.

Anyone else seen Bride and Prejudice? It's so cliche and the characters burst into song at the every oppotunity, but it's really good. It might make more sense in hindi , because the fact that all the characters speak English almost all the time doesn't really make sense.
By the way love "Finding nemo" (mine, mine, mine) and "Ice age" (tae quon dodo) and "shrek" and "shrek 2" (both fantasticly funny).
I'm not sure if anyone else on this site agrees with me because I can't really be bothered to read all of the other posts to the conversation because I could be here a while.

Just went last night with some friends to see "The Grudge". Scariest movie I've ever seen. And the creepiest.
What added to the effect was the fact that the theater was packed, and people would just let out blood-curdling screams anytime anything happened.
Also, for some reason, some people in front of us decided to bring their kids, who were about 8-10 years old. We could actually hear them wimpering during some parts of the movie.
If you like to be scared and/or completely creeped out, I would definetly recommend it.

I don't agree that Monsters Inc was a total childrens movie. I find that it was significantly full with enough references for an adult to enjoy. Obviously the child element was in there, but not enough to be an entirely kids movie. Most of the jokes are so fast and thick to be missed by the kids.
I don't know how Nemo got a 'g' rating - it was too scary for kids. In the cinema I was in, there were kids crying when the sharks came, and then when the glowy fish thingy was attacking Marlin and Dory...
Toy Story is brilliant.
I didn't think that Ice Age was *as* great as the others...though I loved the kid doing the Vulcan salute to the space ship frozen in the ice...priceless...

Saw Bubba Hotep earlier this week. The Chinned Wonder was on good form, but then anything with Bruce Campbell in it has to, by definition, be good It is a definate DVDer when it comes out - quite a bit missed on first viewing Oh, and Samurai Jack is probably the best cartoon on the planet at the moment, Clone Wars was good, but Jack is several orders of magnitude better Until later...
