I watched Alien3 on telly the other night. Judging by other's reaction and the reviews on IMDB I think I must be the only person that actually likes it.
Didn't like Alien Resurection at all.

I watched ‘Saw’ recently; a great horror/whodunit movie. Lots of blood and gore, along with loads of plot twists – I would thoroughly recommend it.
I also watched ‘Super Size Me’ the same week. In some ways it almost had as much horror as ‘Saw’, principally because it was real.
Regarding ‘Nemo’ and ‘Monsters Inc’, I have seen those dozens of times now, mainly because my son (aged 4½) must watch the same film at least a dozen times a week when he first gets them. They are great films, but do get a bit predictable on the tenth showing!
The best film of recent years was 'Donnie Darko'. I must get the new directors cut DVD. Before watching it again, you should visit the website, as it does help to put some of the story in to perspective.

Everybody says that about Donnie Darko. Haven't seen it, yet, but I will, someday.
About a year ago or so I saw Identity. That was pretty cool. A bit predictable if you are familiar with some other movies that have come out lately, but a good watch, all the same.
Y.

Donnie Darko is a love it or hate it film. If you've never had depression or suicidal thoughts or dealt with those that have then it probably isn;t a very good film as it is quite subtle and you may not 'get' the character motivations and consequences. But if you have then it is quite an emotional film. The whole time travel bit is just a tool. Or thats my take on it. One of the great things about it seems to be that it really is different things to different people. One of those films I can only watch when in a certain mood.
Just watched: Bullet Broof Monk Especially cool is the stock man kung fu sequence on the DVD menus And Chow Yun Fat is very cool as ever.
One before that was Gothika, which left me with but one question 'What was so gothic about that?'. Not a very good film.

Must say i watched Bullet Proof Monk the other day and thought it was a load of toss. Other than Chow Yun Fat's performance, it really had nothing to recommend it, and compared with the vastly superior work he has done in Hong Kong in the past, that was toss as well.

Just saw a wierd Korean movie called 'Oldboy,'. It was about a guy who is kidnapped and locked in a room for 15 years, he is then suddenly released and goes about trying to find out who did it and why. It won a load of awards at Cannes and was really good, with loads of plot twists.

I saw Rashomon (1950) yesterday. It's one of Akira Kurosawa's classics. At about 90 minutes it's very short by his standards. It is up there in the IMDB top 250 with a 57th place, but I don't really understand why. The beginning is very intriguing. Three men are sheltering for the rain in a ruin. Two of them are shaking their heads in disbelief about a 'horrific' tale they have witnessed. Although the story they tell is interesting enough, and done well by 1950's standards, it wasn't particularly horrific. I was left with the question why they were shaking their heads about it. Maybe it's the age of the film.
BTW the Clone Wars animations are great! Very cool, fast action, and a bit more understanding in the storyline. It's weird to see how they have animated the actors though.

Watched on rented DVD, 'The Day After Tomorrow' last night. Enjoyed it, great special effects, will probably watch it again, before retutning it to shop.
Got three more DVDs to watch over the next week, 'In the Cut', 'Matchstick Men' and 'Rabbit Proof Fence'.

'Horrific' in the sense used by Kurasawa in Rashomon doesn't mean a horror story. The horrific incident in question is the brutal rape (and murder? Long time since I've seen it) of an innocent woman by a samurai warrior.
Rashomon is a examination of the subjectivity of truth. It has been ripped off (nearly always badly) by any number of film makers. There's an X-Files episode set in a vampire village that doe sit rather well though.
Like all of Kurasawa's movies, it p*ss*s on nearly everything else by anybody else from a great height.

I wasn't expecting a horror tale in the common sense. But it became clear that the background to the story was a country ravaged by many disasters. As one of the men remarks "there are six unclaimed bodies on this roof". The woman in the story had sex with the bandit. Willingly or unwillingly, according to who you believe. Her husband was killed by the bandit, either on her insistance or not. But it seems this was not the shocking element. I think it was the difference in the stories of the people involved. Maybe it is a critique that no matter what happens around you, you must stick to the truth? It depends on whether you believe the people knowingly lied or not.

Just watched english patient on the telly. Not bad. Bit over done on the whole senselessness of war thingy and love can conquer all, but not bad.
BTW, BPM was, as you so eloquently put it Blues Shark, 'toss'. But that doesn't mean it isn't and a good movie to watch

I saw Anger Management yesterday. It was pretty good. Adam Sandler was funny, not as annoying as he can be. Jack Nicholson was very good as usual. There were several surprising and funny cameo's, my favourite being John McEnroe sleeping in a corner of the anger management classroom. There also were some wacky scenes, but they had their charm. Overall, quite entertaining.

Being a Buffy fan, I don't know if I can bring myself to go and watch "Grudge". It seems as if she's going to do a 'Buffy' with the character...please tell me she doesn't...

I'm a Buffy fan as well and I had the same worries but she doesn't. She brings along her excellent acting skills from Buffy (and strangely Buffy's favourite white sweater) but nothing else

Watched Finding Neverland yesterday. Brilliant film, can't reccomend it highly enough. Johnny Depp was superb, his accent was flawless and Kate Winslet put in a good performance too. The kid who played Peter though acted them both off the screen half the time, he's definately one to watch. Very weepy though, my friend was in tears for the last half hour

Au contraire, Spinks. I think it's the best Alien film of the lot. I also like the others, but this is my favourite.
Mememnto is on at some ridiculous time of night tonight. I'm setting the video for it. Watch it if you can.
