haven't seen the american version of The Grudge, too scared to watch it in case they made a mess of it like they did with Ring and Taxi.
Saw The Incredibles on sunday and I didn't think it was all that good (ooh controversial) I actually got bored in places, Mostly though it was an entertaining family film.

Yeah, the Incredibles is a good movie, as you'd expect from pixar, perhaps even excellent. But it's certainly not the best animated movie I've ever seen (which some of the critics over here are saying, it begs the question which animated movies they have seen)

Went to see 'House of Flying Daggers' on Boxing Day, from the same director as Hero.
It's a very different, more intimate film with some quite staggering set-pieces thrown in for good measure. If you liked Hero, go and see it asap.

Saw "Meet the Fokkers" last week. Pretty funny in places, flat in others. Curiously, the Fokker jokes went down like a lead balloon in the cinema I was in - I guess people either (a) didn't think they were that funny (like me), or (b) didn't even get it...
But seriously, Dom, Randy, and Orny? How obvious can you get?
Saw The Day After Tomorrow on DVD a couple of nights ago. Good SFX, questionable science, irritating 'message'. Definitely made for the American mass market... (i.e. about as subtle as a sledgehammer)

Saw House of Flying Daggers on Thursday. Very good, though I preferred Hero. The thing that disappointed me was we never find out what happens in the battle between the Government troops and the Flying Daggers

Watched the original Shrek last night - didn't enjoy it as much as the second one, it seemed to be far too similar to it's sequel and lacking in the things that made the second film really funny like Puss in Boots and the Fairy Godmother

HonestIago,
That caught me by surprise as well. I kept expecting him to cut back to it from the (very bloody compared with Hero) snow battle, but he never did.
I think the idea was that in the love triangle was 'more important' than the army/flying daggers battle. Which is kind of cool.
Still, smashing film.

The Aviator has some superb flying footage, including an amazing crash. I loved how the camera would go right up to the plane from a long shot and go into the cockpit - the things they can do with digital these days!

Tomb Raider may be naff, but it has got Angelina Jolie in it.

I quite like Tomb Raider, actually. It's a cut above most based-on-a-computer-game movies.
And, as previously mentioned, it has Angelina Jolie in it!

watched Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events today and I really enjoyed it, thought the acting of the children was superb, the story was quite good and Jim Carrey wasn't as irritating as usual. My friend however, really didn't like it, she found it too predictable

i only go to the movies w/ the kids, so i've seen shark tales (ok), the incredibles (brilliant, lived the couturière), and lemony snicket (excellent but a little scary for a 7 year old).

Saw Ocean's Twelve last week, the best thing about it was the cinema we were in (proper Art Deco ). The film itself, give it a miss - CZJ just irritated the crap out of me (normally I am neutral on her), the film style seemed to be based on the early seventies with one microphone for the whole room and everyone talking over each other. I enjoyed Ocean's Eleven, but this irritated me, alot. Until later....

Saw Polar Express on the 3D IMAX screen my cinema has. For the last month and a half, this film has been the bane of my life, selling out every show, 5 times a day, 7 days a week and making the cinema aseem like hard work. Now that I've seen it I can't understand why it was so popular, the 3D effects were for the most part, very impressive but the animation was awful for large parts of the film, the main girl's face just looked wrong and at times it reminded me of a poor computer game. And don't get me started on the songs

Sae Shaun of the Dead on Friday - bit gorey, but very well written and extremely funny.
And saw National Treasure yesterday - absolutely excellent! Cage is as usual brilliant, the soundtrack is good, the plot far-fecthed but hey...

After the Sunset, yesterday.
Made me laugh out loud, hard and long, at points:
Woody "Don't be so English! Show your emotions!"
Pierce "I'm not English, I'm Irish. We have no problems showing our emotions. Now f*** off!"
or, when they've landed a shark but don't know if it's alive or dead
Woody (whispering) "I'll creep up behind it and check"
Pierce "Why are you whispering?"
Woody "Because I don't want the shark to hear the plan...."
