Goya's Ghost could be interesting - not seen any trailers for it . The other two look eminently missable to me.

Night at the museum was pretty funny - not marvellous or important, but fun enough for a night out.

Saw Casino Royale Monday. Very good. The ending wasn't thought out though.

To any UK posters in tonight, Tarrantino's 'Jackie Brown' is on BBC1 tonight at 11.15. I love this film!

we watched SEVERANCE last night on dvd. mainly brit actors, actually a comedy type horror, where a firm has sent its staff on a team building experience in romania [i think] only the lodge isn't the luxury style pad when they arrive and there is a man in a balaclava and army coat lurking.... it gets gruesome although nowhere near as hostel...
we enjoyed it but not as good as dog soldiers in himoutdoors opinion, i'd say about the same..... 8/10. wish there was more explanation to the plot... got NACHO LIBRE tonight..

Watched "The Last King of Scotland" last night.
Astonishingly powerful and some truely excellent oscar worthy acting, but it is a raw terrifying experience to watch.

Just watched "THree Musketeers" on BBC2 and man is it rubbish. D'Artagnen was some awful rentakit "All American Hero Boy" type and was rubbish.
The only lsight crumb of comfort was Tim Curry's wonderfully hammy panto bad guy villian (in the Rickman Sheriff of Nottingham vein).
What a waste of a ocuple of hours I oculd have spent watching the carpet....

Watched Battle Royale over the weekend.
SLG turned to me at one point and said 'This is going to become one of my favourite films, just because it's so ***ked up'.

Yeah it is very good.
I remeber thinking at the time. "At least this is one Far Eastern film that wont get a crappy hollywood re-make...."
Then this....

Mummy Doodles and I watched Brief Encounter on Saturday night - superb!
MD had a bit of trouble with the plummy, fifties 'BBC' accents (she actually giggled every time Celia Johnson spoke for about the first 20 mins!) - but we both really got into it and found the dynamic between Howard and CJ compelling enough to get over the (by modern standards) stilted dialogue and diction.
Certainly recommend it to anyone who likes the older movie!

I really enjoyed "Battle Royale". My reaction was much the same- "whoa, this is so ****ed up, it's great!" "Save the Green Planet!" wasn't quite as good (IMO), but left us with a similar impression.

I'm planning on seeing 'the last king of Scotland' mainly because I'm a medic looking at going to Africa.

Saw Layer Cake on DVD the other night. Really enjoyed it, looks like it was Daniel Craig's audition for Bond - that casting makes a lot more sense now I've seen it...
And the next day, in the post, husband got an invitation to join the Stoke Park Club - spooky coincidence! Funnily enough he has declined - costs £1000 a year plus £1000 joining fee...
Also saw Pirates of the Carribean 2, which was enjoyable enough. Didn't realise it was like the Empire Stikes Back though, so about five minutes before it ended hubby and me were saying to each other "bloody long film isn't it? And it looks like there is *ages* to go..."

Memory tells me I saw Battle Royale at the cinema originally, and round about the same time as I saw the unedited Ichii the Killer and was contemplating going to see Happiness of the Katakuri's (which for some reason I never did, still have it on dvd unwatched as well), which may well explain why I personally didn't think BR was that ****ed up.

I still have not seen Ichi the Killer, despite having had the DVD for ages.
Is it more or less messed up than "Oldboy" Blues?

I've not seen Oldboy, but I'm prepared to go out on a limb and say that I doubt very much it could possibly be as messed up as Ichii the Killer, merely because Ichii the Killer has made everything else I've ever seen look relatively normal by comparison.
Though that *may* depend on which bits got edited for video release. 17 seconds could make a lot of difference to ItcK.

Check out the uncut version of Oldboy, it is briliant (but horrible).

I've not seen "Ichi the Killer" yet, but I loved "Happiness of the Katakuris". I didn't watch "Oldboy" all the way through... only got through about the first 15 minutes and then was interrupted. All of these glowing reviews are going to make me rent it again.

Well, let's say that on a scale of 1-10 in the FUBAR stakes, Ichii would score about 9.5, Tetsuo the Iron Man would score about 9 and the average David Lynch would score about 7.5, though Eraserhead would be up there Tetsuo.
Audition is the one everybody normally quotes as a FUBAR film, and I'd rate that about 8, along with most of Takishi Miike's work, and BR fits round about there as well..
Nothing I've seen or heard about Oldboy leads me to think it is FUBAR beyond an 8, 8.5 maximum.
