I was tempted by a bar of organic white chocolate. It practically followed me around the shop singing like a wee siren.
I still miss it. But I resisted.

I read in a thread somewhere that he/she no longer bothers with ask h2g2 because of the emotions it often stirs up. Now I know what they mean.
I shall feel considerably more cautious in responding to posts from now on.

After 3 years on the site, you would have thought I would have learnt to recognise a wind-up.

Heigh ho. Do you want a chocolate covered rice-cake as well? They're no substitute for the real thing, mind...

Dibs101 Posted Jun 16, 2004
I *want* that shortbread recipe. Though I'm having difficulty imagining gooey shortbread.

You mean you occasionally feel that you want somewhere more serious that askh2g2?
A1146917 Perhaps.

Aha! I thought that posting about the suntan cream sounded phoney! Or at least, weirdly unlikely, especially as Bilbo had previously said he wasn't going to go through with it. And the other one, as I pointed out, sounded like such a cliché.
Well gee, hope you had fun Bilbo.

WOW!! That was all quite a ride! This place is more entertaining than the TV! Too bad for Orca whose friends (and myself, whose owns') dilemas arent imaginary....I suppose mine sort of is because it's just how I'm thinking.....
It seem so many of us have experienced so much! Life is quite an adventure....
Funny how after all that steamy talk so many crave sweet temptation.....Whenever I eat chocolate my husband says it's a substitute for sex...(if sex were THAT good I suppose I might have it as often as chocolate....)Actually, aparently chocolate releases some sort of hormone that makes you feel happy. ???
I need a good shot of coffee now; I've already had my tea(how do you all make those pictures???? I can't!) and it's 10 at night! I'll be up forever!
My husband and I are going away Saturday to sunny Mexico. We are going to have the honeymoon we never had and hopefully see where we are....I think I am an adrenalin junkie though; like all the talk about intoxication and excitement; I need more than doing someone's laundry, going to work, to the park etc. It's hard to end a choice though; who says how things turn out....unless it's CHOCOLATE; chocolate always turns out just right! I now have a hankering for my own pepermint shortbread chocolate dipped candy cane cookies I make at Christmas but want to fit into a swimsuit Saturday.....
All of you have a good night with your sweets & sweeties.
And Bilbo, it was good food for thought and with my current state of mind all the advice was well read; so even though the weakness was pretend the temption is real for many of us and none of anyone's words went to waste; MOG, Galaxy Babe (big hug to you) and Ben and everyone!!!
Cheerio!

I think it may have been me who said that they never went into /askh2g2 any more, Caer.
MorganLeFaie - I am right there with you about domestic drudgery *but*...
I had a swept-off-my-feet affair last year, a really humdinger. *sigh* But for a period of time we were living together with his son while we were both working very hard.
It's tricky to say just how romantic this affair had been without sounding like I am blowing off, but let's just say that one day we decided to drive up to the Arctic Circle on a whim, and off we went. *another sigh* We are talking High Romance here. But even so, after a couple of weeks of domestic intensity, that was all we were talking about - food, socks, stuff like that. There wasn't time to talk about anything else.
What I am saying here, Morgan, is that even with the most wonderful man in the world, the unattainable soulmate, even with them - if you live with them the essential sockieness of life inevitably intrudes.

I'm going to spend all morning with images of naked young ladies in morgues floating around my head now.
I have a simple solution to the sock problem. Keep buying cheap ones and throw them away the second they stray more than a foot from their partner.

Agapanthus Posted Jun 17, 2004
I proposed marriage to my fiance surrounded by grubby socks and unmade beds and half-packed luggage. I thought anyone can say yes while sozzled in a gorgeous restaurant surrounded by long-stemmed red roses and soft music. Saying 'yes' surrounded by socks - then you must mean it!
I wonder why people have such a fear of relationships going 'mundane'. All mundane means is things of the world, everyday things, normal things. The whole point of having a spouse/ partner is to share your everyday life, isn't it? If all you wanteed was the roses and violins, you'd have a long distance affair with weekends of passion once a month. And most people don't really wan that. The truth is most people DO want someone they can complain about plumbers to, and wash the socks of, and cook for, and go round Ikea with, and ask to make them tea, and come home to, and find they've ironed your shirts too, and to clean up after when they've been horribly ill, and who will hold your hair back when you are being horribly ill, and who doesn't mind or care when you fart or burp or come in from the daily commute all sweaty and cross, and who will buy you shampoo/ tampons/ new socks/ your favourite biscuits/ some idiotic thing on special offer you ain't never gonna eat. It is immensely comforting to have all this mundanity. Of course, just as if you have a nice painting for ten years you forget to admire it every day, people do forget that the reason their life is so soothing is becasue of the mundanity. They want passion, they want sparkle! They rush out to find some and find alas that all the lovely friendly mundanity has all vanished and the new flame will not deal with your socks or help you clean your ingrown toenails or be unbothered when you eructate. New flame will be rather grossed out, in fact. You have no mundanity and simply can't relax. You have no one who loves you so much and for so long that they fancy you DESPITE your recent crop of bum-spots and teeth-spinach combination.
I do wonder why people are so averse to restarting sparkle and passion with the long-term partner? I suppose it seems to much hard work when OH is sittiing at the breakfast table with sleepy dust in their eyes, vertical unwashed hair, that dressing-gown you never did like and kvetching about the fact you stacked the washing-up wrong. And it never occurs to these people to therefore take OH out to the cinema or dinner or even a nice walk in the park. OH will shower, brush teeth, put a nice shirt on, and feel uninclined to discuss your washing-up failures because hey, you're the nice person taking them on a date! Nope, they just whine that the OH is letting themselves go and does nothing but complain. Having a boring partner is at least half down to being a boring partner. And the only thing you can 'unbore' is yourself. But no, people sit there sighing because they never have any fun any more...
Must stop rambling on. Not fair on other Hootooers. They must be automatically skipping my posts by now - 'It's that loon Agapanthus spouting off again, shut eyes until I've scrolled past her...'

Au contraire Agapanthus - I _always_ read your posts. I may not totally agree with absolutely everything you say - but you say it so well that your posts are very readable and usually thought-provoking.

My main observation on this thread is , most of the h2g2 community are very moral people. I think only 2 people said go for it even though its wrong.Heartening I think. Bilbobilbo.

hi Agapanthus,
I always thought that *I* was the queen of the long and rambling posting! Looks like I have a bit of competition here.
I do read all your postings all the way through.
The way I see it, there are certain conversation threads that somehow MAKE someone reply in a very emotional manner - god knows I've done it tons of times (though often cringing after posting).
The nice thing is that most people accept that something was written in an 'emotional moment'. I've not come across any sort of serious judgemental factor because I maybe ran off at the mouth about this or that, here and there.
This thread, for example, questioned the importance of long-term relationships and the short-term 'thrill' of having an affair. And many people replied from the heart. It has been very interesting.
I think it speaks well for the h2g2 community that we feel comfortable enough to 'let go' and speak our minds and hearts at times. That we feel 'at home' enough to do this. And I hope that never changes.
