Yes.
And no.
Yes. The general theme of netiquette (and speculation on the thinking behind things) has arisen from the specific question of the apparent 'sins' by one researcher who has been trying in several unusual ways to open a dialog, but retreats whenever anyone tries to speak to him directly.
And no, because the overall issue still seems to be "what could he/she/they be thinking?" It is always interesting to hear for example that some people think bookmarking is an anti-social behavior when for many it seems a friendly thing to do.

I have ran the name through the UK's paramedic staff search, and I have found out more about the person claiming to be a paramedic.
He is a 17 year old male that is a volunteer with St John Ambulance, as he claimed to be.
He is actually an Advise Paramedic, that goes to schools and also attends football matches, however, Advise Paramedics do not give advise through the means of internet sites or chat sites.
I will send a complaints form and a form strictly stating that he must be removed from the service, and must not return to any other St John Ambulance companies in the UK.

Lee / Liam...
"Birmingham Divition
Unit 114 depack 1 2 9 0
sub number 384"
This is what he posted on my message center, after I pulled him up about having the username Paramedic, before he altered it to Advice Paramedic.
"Have him removed" bit harsh?

Back in the good old days, "Dr Freud" would suddenly appear at about this point in the conversation and relate humourous anecdotes about 'volunteer firemen' being arrested for arson.
Some studies show that 80% of all volunteer firemen have a criminal record for pyromaniacal acts of one sort or another if you include any military service. Did ya ever see Rambo?

Well somebody has been arson about.
So doc, is he offering authority figures, as part of a mad crazed revenge master plan, for being badly treated by site authority (under an old ID)?

Isn't it illegal to impersonate doctors, police, firemen etc etc?
Report him. I would. Imagine the can of worms that could have been opened if some vulnerable person had come along with a serious illness looking for advice?

Sorry, that was needlessly rude of me.
What I meant to say was: There seem to be some discrepancies between your statements in the present thread and what is pointed out in other entries and forum threads you've contributed to. It would sure be interesting to hear your account for this, if you'd be so kind...
cheers,

1. I am not that person.
2. I am just here to lern more about first aid myself by some of the guide entries made.
3. There is no need to be like that with me.
4. If you think I am that person, you are wrong but you have your own views and I respect that, even if they are wrong.
5. I have no use for continuing this conversation, and so will unsubcribe from it.
6. The reason I'm unsubcribing from it is, I am not going to be blamed for the act's of a silly person who thinks he runs St John Ambulance.
Thank you.

1) As I've said, I'm sorry for the tone in my previous post, I'd had a terrible morning, but there was no need to take it out on this otherwise rather civilised thread.
2) So you say. I for one believe that's not true, but honestly, I really don't care. My main concerns are a) that this rather troublesome behaviour does not repeat itself, and b) how we, as a community, are to deal with the unofficial welcoming boards, that are likely to pop up from time to time.
That was all,

I understand and I am sorry I did not read your last post properly,
and about the groups, I dont think there is anything any of us can do to stop people making up unofficial help/guide groups.
If it is banned from this site, then the Guardian Angels are not likely to be able to carry on helping alongside the ACEs.
And if you still think I am that person, then go ahead, it does not really bother me as I know I am not.
Why dont you try checking the email addresses or asking someone to do it, and the ages etc...
good day.

Would it be actually possible to alter the House Rules so that something like this couldn't occur? Perhaps by making it explicit that welcoming important advice can only come from an ACE or the like? This whole debate has interested me, mainly because I spend a lot of time on Talk Buffy and, since we don't have ACE's etc, it's down to the individual to welcome newcomers.

Junior / Star-Rider / Angel-Flight / Lee / etc... (You've called yourself so many names over the last week I've lost track )
There should be no problem with any member of the site starting up a help group... However, and it's a big however, it does help if the person starting up the group follows up on it and actually helps people... Recently there has been a spate of person or persons unknown opening an account, starting a help group, posting to half a dozen personal spaces - often giving incorrect information - and then unsubscribing from these postings so if the person greeted _does_ actually have a problem they find themselves ignored...
Now the difference between that, the Aces and the Guardian Angels is that the latter two groups comprise _experienced_ users who support each other through off-site communications - who are generally either very knowledgable of the workings of the site or are quickly capable of finding any information requested and, above all, who are trying to help people to integrate into the site.
How would you feel if someone greeted you and gave you duff information, then when you asked them a question you were ignored? Personally I'd have been heading for another website if it had happened to me when I arrived!
That's the problem, it's not elitism nor jealousy, nor an attempt to stop other people helping out... It's fear that the 'unsupported' type of 'help group' we've seen over the last couple of weeks could end up damaging the site and driving newbies away...
