Who has the world's weirdest cat?
rooftiler - back again, for another bit at least Posted Mar 26, 2004
I'm ing work just now so can't take time to tell you all about Molly (boy !) but will come back at a later date, honest. Though having just read all the backlog, I don't know if he'll be in contention for the world's weirdest...
But my first answer to the question was... 'the world's weirdest cat "owner" '
Just a thought!

Spiggy? I think you have mixed up names, Helelou!
Lua is fine. I still think my VERY DIFFICULT decision to not operate at her age was the best one to make, though it still makes me feel very sad that she will eventually die of cancer. But better that (I think!) than perhaps have her die on the operating table or have her suffer through post-op complications and then die anyhow, as nobody could tell me for sure that the op would cure her. At least now she is happy and doesn't know she is sick. And she never has to go to the vet's again (she also screams her head off there and back in the taxi) and meanwhile I am totally spoiling her.
As for going to the vet's. I keep one of my cat cages out in the living room all the time and the cats take turns sleeping in it. So it is usually not a problem to get them into it when I have to take them to the vet's (though getting them out again after we arrive is another matter!).
Lua and Sunny turn into total wimps at the vet's and let any sort of poking and prodding be done to them (as long as I am there and let them hide their heads under my sweater, poor lambs). Sunny has let the vet's stick in a catheter (ouch!) and even the vet's were amazed as they said they normally have to knock the cat out to do this. And when Lua had a blood sample taken a few weeks ago she sat still for it being done twice as the vet couldn't find a good vein the first try. On the other hand, my gypsy black cat Azar turns into the Tasmanian Devil. Last time I took him to the vet's I had to tranquilise him first. Happily this was many years ago and - touch wood - he hasn't needed to go to the vet's since then.
Visits to the vet's seem so much easier for dogs and dog owners as dogs are more used to going out and so they don't get so upset about being taken someplace else.

Helelou,
Yes, Lua is changing a lot these days. Going from terminally cranky to sometimes very sweet and cuddly! Maybe she does know she is sick after all. But for the time being she isn't in pain and she is being so totally spoiled with favourite foods and lots and lots of extra attention and kisses on the head.
You can find out more about Lua (if you want) on my Lua thread.

All:
Sorry that I didn't report earlier! Nightsade, the cat that I took to the Vet, is back home and doing fine. The first day and a half had me worrying a bit, she didn't act like her previous self, but now I attribute that to her tummy hurting abd recovering from the anestea (sp?).
Although it is not supposed to be good for her the first meal was tuna! She picked at it, and we had a time keeping the other cats away!
ALthough I knew it was going to be fairly high I was a bit surprised at how high! The bill for her visit to the Vets was $199.50! Not a cheap stray! I guess we'll keep her!

Logicus:
You are quite right! There is truly no such thing as a "Cat owner"! In observing mine, I have found that their body language indicates that they believe they are the owners, and we the pets! No matter, I love the just the same!

My cats have now decided to become little furry answering machines.
My cell rang yesterday, which happened to be in the living room (in my ) while I was in the bedroom. It was apparently an objectionable sound, as two cats ran into the bedroom, leaped on the bed and meowed at me, until I heard the ring.
Such talented fuzzies.

At the moment my cat's are running around chasing eachother
Back to cats and phones one of my mum's old cats used to sleep on the phone, how many times we were tempted to go next door and ring the house to see what would happen

This would be the days before mobiles then?
Small child I know hid his mother's mobile phone in one of those cuddly toy pyjama cases. Cat liked to curl up on the bed among that and the rest of the cuddly toys - to the extent that visitors could mistake the lot for cuddly toys and lie down on the bed to be greeted by a grumbly disturbed cat. Anyway, said mother and I and another friend hunted for the phone for ages - not wanting to ring it because the baby was asleep. Baby duly woke up and so we finally rang the phone. It was one of those phones which vibrate as well as ring. Cat leapt a mile and didn't go near the pile of cuddly toys for at least a fortnight.

OK, this isn't a phone story, but still funny. One of my childhood cats hated the sound of a human whistling. If you sat and whistled, she would grow more and more annoyed and finally would jump into your lap and put her paw on your lips.

you try going in for work two hours late with the escuse that as the cat slept on the clock radio switching of the larm as paws on sensor so you did'nt hear it, this happened more than once to me.

My husband's late cat crashed his computer more than once (huge paws in the wrong place on the keyboard when he was in my husband's lap).
The new one likes to perch on top and watch the cursor move across the screen.

My phone often goes unanswered as I keep changing the ringtone and don't recognise it when it goes off!
Cassie is having fun at the moment as we've got a load of flat pack furniture to put together. All the large boxes and thin foam packaging have kept her amused for hours as she checks there are no hiding in the creases, folds and crevasses.
She seems to have a deal going with the magpies, she catches the and they clear the corpses away! At least we haven't had any in the attic this year and the only ones I've found in the house are the ones she brings to show me: 'Look Mum, I've brought you lovely little !'
