My pretty kitten cat who is now 14 (but still looks like a kitten) has totally destroyed my records.
They have a scratching post which they use. They are allowed to scratch the sofa as it was a second hand one donated by a friend and they seem to like it.
My vinyl LP's are stored tightly upright on a shelf in the spare room, and only recently did I notice they are all clawed. She has been using them as a scratching post too! The covers are ruined.
She is so innocent too! Little horror!
My other cat Spiggy is a therapists nightmare!

"The covers are ruined."
Ack! Sorry to hear about that. It sounds awful.

The caps fall off with natural growth within 5-6 weeks??? Are they kidding? Firstly a cat would gnaw and chew at plastic caps on their claws and possibly choke on them. Secondly, well, how stupid!
I don't even clip my cats' claws because I reckon a sharp fine point often does less damage than a thicker blunt one (and they both rip and tear, either sharp or blunt, blunt leaves bigger holes in my experience).
I only have shreds of sofa left and constantly re-cover the dining rooms chair seats. And my sheets end up in tatters before long. As for my hardwood floors - don't ask!
But if those things truly mattered to me more than my cats then I probably shouldn't have cats.
And I have three cats! Or they have me. Can't imagine preferring an intact sofa. . .

Spiggy is a therapists nightmare because he needs one!!
I had to see the pet bahaviouralist (who was fortunately my boss!) to find out ways to deal with his odd behaviour and over sexual excitement.
Which was basically medical treatment, extra love - especially when he is doing his worst to wind me up on purpose and to make sure he has his own way when the other cat is about.
He gets stressed easily and suffers from multi-cat household syndrome. this causes intermittant diarr, he chews his leg until it goes bald and ulcerates, and had to have a 'friendly pheromone' spray to destress him as well as daily clomipramine tablets (an antidepressant) to calm him down. He also used to get fully horny on my hair - he has been neutered for 14 years!
That's my boy!

Mars simply loves to sit splay-legged and lick around his unmentionables. Never had a cat do that before!

Those claw pads are a improvement if those that use them stop the barbaric treatment shown when "declawing" cats , i have always clipped my cats claws ,all house cats need checks specialy on the dew claws seen to many torn when caught on curtains its the human equivilent,to haveing your thumb bent back and the skin split to the wrist.
Also some of you with older cats will notice the claws get to a point where they dont fully slough so become hang nails also opening the cuticle (sheath) open to infection.
You can also file the tips with a emery board, i even believe i have seen a thimble rasp but that might have been home made, good tip for dogs that will accept file but not clippers.

When my old old cat was alive (she was 17) her claws got so long she kepts getting stuck on things. She's be walking on the rug and would get stuck and all sorta of things, so we cut hers, we usually cut our cats whevever we get around to it (which isn't, unfortunately, very often) but we only have one cat left, and i don't think she even knows how to use her claws... Stupid idiot of a cat.
Cami, the cat, is 3/4 chinchilla. She is white, long-haired with a bit of grey down her back. She once tried to catch a bird. She was creeping up on it through the grass, it was just looking at her, and then she jumped and tried to get, she didn't even open her claws out, and ended up just clapping cause the bird had been watching her for AGES and it just fluttered up out of her reach. Stupid Cami... she's inbred, and an idiot...
Oscar (one of my dead cats) used to be great at catching birds. But he didn't like eating them, he just caught them and played with them until they stopped playing and then walked off to find something else interesting.
Oscar, in fact, used to catch most of the local wildlife, including next dorr's huge dogs... That was pretty funny...

My cat's name is Champers, and while he's a wonderful friend, long and black and gorgeous, and very cuddly at times, he does lack a bit in the brains department. He likes to come into the bathroom with me, and I know that if I shut the door all the way he'll want out, so I leave the door with about four or five inches to spare so he can push his way out when he has gotten bored. But when he decides to leave, he'll sit in front of the door, look at it, and assume it's all the way closed (since it looks perpendicular from that angle). So he'll go up and start scratching and banging on the door to make me open it, and in the process CLOSE the door. I've tried to teach him how to open the door himself, but I think he prefers this method.
Then of course there's his method (timed down to the last second) for getting up the stairs and into the bedroom when he's been scared. He likes to lounge against the wall in front of the stairs, but whenever someone walks quickly and purposefully toward him, he assumes they're coming to get him. BOOMskritchskritchskritchWHUMPWHUMPWHUMPkafuffle. The "BOOM" is him pushing off the wall. The three "skritches" are his claws trying to get a hold on the tile floor. The three "WHUMPs" are his three giant leaps up the stairs. And the "kafuffle" is him squeezing very quickly through the opening in the bedroom door. Champers is very consistent.

I thought I was the only one whose cat used to love scratching the album covers! I have a number of album covers which would have been collectors items, but for the "serrated" edges! The one who used to do that was Gremlin (it was the ears, don't ask!) and she pretty much used to scratch at anything that took her fancy!
My current duo, Rocket and Missy, are such good little beasts! They have their over-the-door-handle hanging cat scratchers and that's it, except for the odd cardboard box. For all their quirks, thankfully, interior re-decorating is not one of them!

I have been searching for the last hour or so -- the little beasts have swiped my Koala Beanie Baby!! It is not in it's place atop my monitor! I have been down on hands and knees, flashlight in hand, searching under the desk, behind the monitor, in the litter box (in case it was a protest!), in the water dish, just everywhere..
Normally wouldn't care but it was a gift from a friend, in honor of a joke from a while back.
Did those two take the Snake BB? Did they bother the Lizard BB? NO, they took the favorite! Pretty sure they did it, as it was there a few hours ago...
Anyone have any ideas where a cat would take such a thing?
