Life is complex. It has both real and imaginary components.

Hi! I'm MuseSusan, returning after about two years of, well, kind of forgetting about this place (not intentional, I assure you!) More detail and general chattiness forthcoming; in the meantime, let me tell you about myself:

I am a mathematics/computer engineering double major at a wonderful college in New York, hoping to start down the road to a PhD in math next year. I love science, computers, and puzzles, but mathematics is practically my religion. I have a tendency to work math into any discussion I happen to be in, and I've been known occasionally to go on a rant about the deplorable state of math education, the misuse of math, or people's misconceptions about mathematics and mathematicians.

Related to my love of math is my interest in art. (Yes, the two are related; mathematics is first and foremost a creative act, despite the insistence of many people I've encountered that math is all about following formulas. See above paragraph re. ranting about misconceptions.) I don't draw as much as I used to, but I do a bit of digital painting. These days, my artistic passions are knitting and crocheting, and photography, all of which can be seen here: http://musesusan.deviantart.com" >http://musesusan.deviantart.com />
My other great love (uh oh, now I'm starting to sound cheesy) is nature. Being a college student with no car, I can't easily get to really obscure wild areas, but I take every opportunity I get to go to parks, hiking trails, and gardens. I especially love the small things--native wildflowers, and the many insects I encounter in these places. I try to carry my camera with me everywhere.

I als love the theatre, and although I've had a few small roles, I prefer to work backstage. I have designed a set for a musical, helped build numerous sets, and most recently, gotten into projection and lighting. (I actually created a set of simple animations to be projected as part of the set for a show a few years ago, which was really exciting.) I'm particularly obsessed with musical theatre, especially the work of Rodgers & Hammerstein and Stephen Sondheim, although there are countless others; I've hardly met a musical I didn't like. So if you want to sing showtunes, trade stories, share random and obscure musical trivia, you've come to the right place!
