Let's see, what would somebody want to know. I'm female, pushing 50, an American who lives in suburban Washington, D.C., and works for a large newspaper chain as an editor in our Washington bureau. I got into that because I love words and stringing them together, and was told I was pretty good at that.
I'm married, with no kids but a large, anxious cat (details in my journal). Love gardens but hate gardening, so have many herbs and flowers in weedy beds. Love food and cooking and wine. Love riding my bicycle on the D.C. area's many bike paths.
We went to France for the first time in 2002 and loved it so much that we go nearly every year. Our dream is to retire there someday.
Love music and singing, and used to be in a pop band that performed the '60s girl group songs. Best fun you can have with your clothes on. I miss it -- no one has applauded for me in years. (I keep encouraging that at the office but no takers so far.) Favorite musicians: Joe Jackson, Aimee Mann, Fountains of Wayne, k.d. lang, 1970s Steely Dan.
Dislikes: President Bush. Congress. Sushi. Music in which the clothes and dancing are more important than the music. Big Hollywood blockbuster movies. People talking loudly into their cell phones. People talking loudly in public at all. Mediocre food swaddled in cheese and served in a big enough portion that they hope you won't notice how mediocre it is. Most television. SUV's. Arrogance. I will stop before this list gets longer than my likes.
I was turned on to Doug Adams and "Hitchhiker" nearly 20 years ago. I had the privilege of hearing Doug lecture a few years ago. I stood in a long line for him to sign my book (only one sig to a customer), and noted the weary look in his eyes at the interminable length of the line. Didn't blame him. I laughed when he replied to a long commentary/question about the number "42" with, "It was a JOKE!!"
I miss him now, and always make certain to know where my is.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
