Can I refer back to the very first post...
Does that mean you've been reading my entry, A737633?
Thanks a lot!
I feel quite old when I remember reading the last thread like this that came up on askh2g2.

What makes me feel old, is when I hear a song on Pepsi Chart (#5 on the UK chart I believe) and it's a rip-off (cover?) of Supertramps 'The Logical Song' and I start telling my son how superior the origianl was, and I realise that Supertramp are from the '70s!
When I hear an '80s song in a department store, and remark on it to the woman behind the counter, and she asks when it came out, saying "I probably wasn't born then". I say 1982, she says, "oh, I was a baby" and her colleague says blithely "I was just learning to walk then".
When we moved into our current house and the first song the radio played was Smashing Pumpkins', '1979'. One of the removal men comments that I am a bit old to be listening to Top 40 (rude toyota he was) and I start talking about how bigly 1979 sucked and how the '80s were better. My son and the removal men give me funny looks.
My son asked me what our first phone number was when I was a child. I explain that it '2208' he thinks that's because I was around when under 3000 people had phones! Not!

Same as LokuZ, I think it was, way back a bit. I'm eighteen (not seventeen) and I feel old, old very old at times.
"Big Brother" makes me think of 1984 - the book (and the year I was born. Huzzah for me!). Which for some reason makes me think of Soylent Green. But that's another story.
Being a fan of Adam Ant, Supertramp, the Monkees, the Beatles and Ziggy Stardust.
No Dr. Seuss for me as a kid. Enid Blyton, Beatrix Potter and Trixie Belden.
Being a great fan of the Two Ronnies, The Good Life, The Goodies, Are You Being Served...And the "Carry On" movies. Mention "Carry On, But Don't Lose Your Head" to most eighteen year olds and you're met with a blank stare.
I used the term "I remember when I was young" a few months ago too...

Someone younger than me (although not much younger) feeling old... now that is another thing that makes me feel old.

To begin with:I don't feel old at all...
But: For example, punk-rock started for me (late, as I am) in 1980, and this is the year my love was born... it's a bit strange
Otherwise, I met some of the people I made "Abitur" with... definitly old people who shake their heads and tell me "You'll never grow up" - I'm happy about being told this.

Just reread the backlog - I don't define myself by the music I listen too. I enjoy music from before I was born, as well as current stuff. I've lived through a lot, but that doesn't make me feel old, just privileged.
All you 17 and 18-year-olds who feel old because you like classic literature or old music - having eclectic tastes doesn't make you old. I know who Trev and Simon are, and Morecambe and Wise, and Abbot and Costello, and Laurel and Hardy.
I drive around in a car that is only 4 years younger than me - and more than 20 years older than you - because I like it. To use the terminology I grew up with, it's fab and it's groovy!
I've no choice but to grow old - I intend to continue to do so disgracefully, but I have absolutely no intention of ever growing up.

Hmm! I think Roger McGough summed it all up in Let Me Die a Young Mans Death which he wrote when he was 21.

USA Comedian Milton Berle (given the topic, I thought I'd better explain ), late in his great career:
"People say old folks don't enjoy sex. I enjoy sex ... I especially like the one in the spring."

I have no idea who Trev and Simon are. Does that make me young?
Well, I know plenty of Trevs and Simons, but perhaps these are two particular ones.
I know who Beavis and Butthead are. And Robin Hall and Jimmy McGregor.
