Statisticians- I was just getting at them since I'm 'involved' with one, and it is ingrained in me not to resist a sly dig. He is very perverse.
Tube- if you can find some people who'd find this topic disturbing, by all means bring them on! I was hoping for a good debate (no hurt feelings, though) about the nature of normality with a Normer.

Well, thereĀ“s a homepage dedicated to the study of weird fetishes. I think it is called Deviant Desires. There you might find out what a pervert is.

Would the feminine form 'deviante' or 'deviantette' not be more appropriate Mina?

Nasty dream...
Deviant Desires I've visited often. There are some quite far-reaching things covered there... Furverts are perhaps the most- unusual. Or the big-nose fetishists.
(Notice use of 'unusual', not 'weird' or 'disturbing' in case there are any furverts around... hmm? Besides, I don't think I'm disturbing.)

what is normal is a function of what is perceived as acceptable by the majority of members in a group. if you are a member of a karate group, it is normal to hear "hi ya's" and see people kicking each other...is that normal behavior in a cooking circle? on a larger scale, sexual behavior applies to all living things. if we narrow it to humans, we are still talking about a group that will never reach a consensus on what is normal sexual behavior...my credo? if it tuns you on, i dont ask any questions...(hurting other people and/or animals is not included in that credo)
i for one happen to enjoy sex a good deal...some of the things i have done may not be perceived as "normal", but, oh well. it was fun for me

Sensible.
Although (with me, at least) there's some confusion over 'hurting'.
Does this mean that all activities that could cause pain are bad:
-what if the 'pain' is enjoyed (and therefore not painful)?
-if the person wishes to be 'hurt'?
-if it's not meant to be harmful (i.e. humiliation scenes)?
You see the problems I have.

yes true...hurting others (purposefully or not)...maybe we can say that if one of the participants is hurt in a way they did not wish to be hurt, then by default it is not a good sexual encounter?...

Yes, I agree with that.
(This would make a nice set of rules should Researchers ever colonise a planet...)
I have trouble, sometimes, explaining the difference between good hurting and nastiness. Especially to people who think it's all about 'exploiting women'... sigh.

Thank you for mentioning that. I, for one, do not feel pornography exploits women. On the contrary, fashion magazines exploit women--they prey upon their fears and desires. I can't think of a porn movie where the heroine's fashion sense, hair style, and pedicure is disected by a bunch of Madison Avenue harpies.

Phryne- 'Best Suppurating Actress' Posted Jul 18, 2001
Absolutely. I just think porn is amusing (and I'm not really bothered that most of it isn't for women), and the more of it there is the healthier we'll be. It's harmless and they get paid.
Aside from pornography, I was discussing S&M; how this exploits women, exactly, is something they can never explain.
"Sick, perverted man hurting that poor woman," or "Sick, perverted, weak man wanting that poor woman to do those disgusting things to him."
How's that work, then?

women have the ridiculous tendency to blame men for their insecurities while simultaneously proclaiming their independence from the "traditional woman and her roles". women like this usually end up on jerry springer and refer to their childrens father(s) as "my (insert number) baby's daddy"

...and as long as pornography is a legal art form, theres nothing wrong with it (unless it falls under a guise like child porn or ~here comes that word again~ hurting someone against their will)

Truly liberated woman, me- I like men, and know they've got nowt to do with my insecurities. (Unless they're horrible on a personal level.)
It seems that 'we' (i.e. some women) are just as reliant on men- only instead of them providing money, control etc. they're hated and used as scapegoats. Get over it.
Pornography is generally very unimaginative anyway. It's all based on the same thing, so where's the harm.
Child porn is of course wrong. Anything is wrong in which one or more of the participants cannot give informed consent.
(Notices that most Perverts are more enlightened and have a better understanding of fair and balanced, respectful relationships.)

It is said that were a man's sex life revealed, it would shock other men, perhaps this means we are all perverse as who can say truely what normality is?

I'm not really here Posted Jul 19, 2001
We tend to say that anything goes as long as it doesn't harm anyone or scare the horses. My young man often hurts me, but he'd cut his own hands off before he'd do something that harmed me.

Hurrah for that. (raises glass)
Do you think he'd cut his hands off anyway, if you asked him really nicely?
