Well, that´s something that belongs in tabloid speak "Politician in sex scandal!". Just means he had sex with a hooker.
And about sex being worse than tobacco. Well, you could look at sexually transfered diseases compared to smoking related diseases. maybe it really is worse than tobacco. Sometimes statistics can amaze you.

Diseases aren't the same as sex, though- these are caused by carelessness and/or stupidity. What this upright, moral family man seemed to be suggesting was that there's something inherently evil, violent or shameful about sex and anyone who makes use of it will be harmed. I really wish this sort of view would be evolved out.
Sex can be used safely- tobacco cannot (i.e. without causing some damage to health and possible addiction).

yes, there are no benefits (health or otherwise) to smoking...(now that i have quit for > 3 years, i can say that ) but sex on the other hand has many benefits as we can all probably agree

Hurrah for 42 (and congratulations on quitting).
Regarding Jeffrey Archer (who can now be safely spoken lowly of) surely anything of a sexual nature involving him is perverted?
Today I read an angry letter replying to an outraged letter which had suggested that lesbians are perverts. But then it was in the Mail (where that fool Hitchens was seriously suggesting we ban sex education to stop teenage pregnancy).
Sigh...

Pu Dendal-Shrubbery Posted Jul 22, 2001
Surely there is NOTHING more perverted than the views held by The foaming-at-the-mouth Daily M**l demons, Hitchins, Quentin Letts etc ?
ick! No sex for Jeffrey Archer then. But he will be going down for a long time...

At least Tebbit's left... but he had the excuse of being ancient and mad and wasn't really taken seriously. But it now means Hitchens has a column... does anyone know how many other 'factual' statistics are actually complete fabrications?
REALLY ANNOYED AT THIS
Yes, I'm sure there's been a huge increase in teenage pregnancy since sex education was introduced. I'm sure that many more poor young things are having babies than, say in the 1860s. And everyone knows what great days they were... respect for the elders, women in their proper place, no homosexuals, real men, no perverts, family values...
AAAAARGH!
I think I've said before that there aren't many people I'd send a voodoo death curse to, but...
Anyway.
Sick Archer joke BTW. Maybe we should start a collection.

Well, I have a casual interest... people like Hitchens are an encouragement. But it's a baroque Boudoir Dungeon rather than a Gothic Tower.
There's a site called Pinstruck which sends a death curse to the person of your choice. I'm tempted.

sex education in schools is a funny subject...by the time i had sex ed, i thought it was all a big joke, watching the professors turn colors as they explain what goes into where and how...it was rather humorous, as i am sure it still is to the kids of today who have much more knowledge about sex than probably those very teachers. what ever happened to learning it at home? i dont have any children but if i did i would be sure to tell them what they need to know when i feel they need to know it...
here in the united states our government schools are failing to give the kids the fundamentals: math, science, reading, etc...rather, they are focusing on raising them (aka teaching stuff that should be left to the parent). although my views are usually politically liberal, i think there is a place for sex education outside the school system

I think the problem is that parents don't discuss things with their children. Not just sex, everything. Therefore, children don't discuss things with their parents... disaster. Sex education in my school was a bit pathetic really, and I seem to remember already knowing before I'd seen the videos. But this chap, who obviously knows best, stated that since it had been introduced there'd been a 'massive increase' in teenage pregnancy. I'd say that the problem is people like him, who think that discussion and openness leads to encouragement and misuse. Obviously, it doesn't- it becomes not an issue, everyone's comfortable with it, information is readily available and we're all safe.
I say we should ban him.
Somehow, I just absorbed the facts about safe sex- biology lessons were actually more informative about the mechanics of it, and we girls had a 'talk' from the school nurse (in year 11! By which time 6 girls in my class were already on the Pill). The somewhat more specialised stuff I need to know now was no problem- everyone knows you have to stay 'safe, sane and consensual'. (I keep imagining an advert about that, like a 'stop, look and listen' one. ) Someone was saying that this the reason why gay people in particular (to which I would add, Pervs also) are often more aware of safety issues than 'normal' people, since they have to be; and constantly receive this information. If such communities were closed and lacked the organisations, events etc. they have, they wouldn't be half as safe.

I doubt not telling teenagers about sex is going to solve anything. Anyone here who didn´t know the basics before they had sex education? There was a BBC article somewhere that had looked into the strange ideas teenagers had on how not to get pregnant. Some of them made some warped sense, but other were just far out. Like why shouldn´t you be able to get pregnant if you have sex while standing on a phone book? So more sex ed would probably be the way to go, focusing on methods of prevention. And I suppose maybe also parent talks. I never had the birds and the bees talk my with my parents personally.

I just picked most of it up as I went along...
Sometimes wilfull ignorance is to blame, but not often.
The problem with sex ed. in school as I experienced it was that it was very much about the biology, whereas relationships were not really discussed. I'm not a subscriber to the sanctity of marriage idea, but I think you should at least know someone fairly well before you get up to anything with them. (Knowing them well does not necessarily mean knowing them for a long time, BTW. And there's a difference between love and lust- as I see things- which is important, as long as you're sensible with each.) And most of the stuff we were shown dealt with babies and how they developed in the womb, all very fascinating but not really to do with sex. There were only a couple of episodes about The Act Itself, compared with lots designed to stop boys making jokes about PMT and girls about wet dreams. (Neither of which worked.)

Ahem... moderator? I didn't actually post a URL, just the name of the site. Not its address. I didn't know this wasn't allowed... it's not happened before, anyway.

A site that sends a death curse...?
That's a must-have bookmark if I ever saw one!
Good luck arguing for that one's return Mandy.

I wouldn't be grumbling if it had been a real URL... it's just a bit shoddy. (Tries again- the site's name (NOT address!) is composed of the words 'pin' and 'stuck'.)

How many Jeffrey Archers does it take o change a lightbulb?
Only one Jeffrey to take out one lightbulb whilst screwing another in ......and several accomplices to say that he'd never met the young lightbulb in question and on that night he was a attending the Annual Dinner for People who Prefer candles anyway.

Now since he´s been mentioned so much, who is this Jeffrey Archer. Is he just a politician who had sex with a minor?

No but he's a politician who has just been sent to jail for four years for well being a slimey git essentailly, it's been on the cards for a long time, and now they have finally nailed him for having won a libel case years ago through getting his secretry to make some new diaries to show he was at other places than where it was alleged he was with his mistresses
