The worst Song Ever?

Post 101

I don't think Oasis are actually that bad they are just VERY over-rated both in their own opinion and that of their fans /music journos. I was also massively put off them by the way that there was a phase in the late 90's where people would put several tracks of "What's the Story Morning Glory" on jukeboxes in pubs to the extent where I had a rule that if I heard three tracks in a row from them then I had to on principle put music in the jukebox that wasn't by Oasis, it usually ended up containing at least one Nirvana track.

The fact that Liam is an arse of monumental proportions who was rude about Kurt doesn't help either - Kurt may have been a "gearhead" and "a sad **** who couldn't handle his fame" but at least he had a soul and considering the amount of coke Liam's snorted over the years he's got no right to slag someone else off for being an addict. I'm sorry but I hate it that people think Liam's "attitude" is cool - I don't think there is anything admirable about being rude and arrogant.

Oasis are harmless, have written some blinding straight forward rock songs, have never hidden their influences and you're all just jealous!

I know I am.smiley - envy

I'm not jealous of Oasis... Liam can't do a proper metal growl and Noel can't shred to save his life! smiley - nahnah

>> For me, the most execrable, pathetic and gOdawful piece of self-aggrandising crap music was Oasis' Wonderwall. Not big. Not clever. Not meaningful. Not even musical. Just sh*te. <<

Surely the Mike Flowers Pops version shows that the song has some musical merit?

But i think you have to go a long way for godawfulness to beat 'The Goombay Dance Band' and 'Seven Tears', although 'Mull of Kintyre' does run a close second.

Roymondo - I agree and disagree. There are many, many worse bands than Oasis, I quite like "Wonderwall" and other some other songs of theirs' but I still maintain that they are over-rated, that Liam is a waste of space and am not remotely jealous of them. I also think that the singing and placing are very ordinary - although I can't play anything and my singing is not perfect so I'm not really one to talk on that. They are also one of the most dull bands I have ever seen live (I saw them at a festival so I didn't specifically pay to see them).

Blues Shark - For people who like this sort of thing, then this is just the sort of thing they'll like

What is all this nonsense about Katie Melua? Jazz for people who don't like jazz. The Sade of her generation. Away with her, and Joss Stone and all the other lightweight female vocalists being foisted on us.

At least Kate Bush is finally back to put them all in their place.

Why did you have to mention Kate Bush?
I'll have Babushka running through my head all day now...

Anyway, I have just hit upon the definitive Worst Song Ever: Mr. Blobby.

Oh ahem to that - Mr Blobby definately sucks but - hey no dissing of Great Kate please. She's may have a Marmite voice - i.e you either love or loathe it - but at least she's a geunine artist and in a market dominated by bland production line music we should cherish someone who has their own distinct style.

I wasn't dissing Kate, it's just that for some reason whenever her name is mentioned I spend the rest of the day with Babushka stuck in my head.

How can anyone suggest that Kate Bush is better than Katie Melua or Joss Stone? smiley - erm

smiley - run

No, I mean it in all seriousness.

And if you like "Creep" and "Iron Lung" by Radiohead, then sorry, but you like everything they did up to the end of OK Computer, admit it. smiley - winkeye

I don't find much music that I don't like at the moment - there's plenty that I'm completely indifferent about, but I have to admit that James Blunt is already getting on my nerves. And I'm glad I was too young to get into music in the early 1980s.

Oh, and Oasis - great songs, not-so-great band.

"what on Earth induced her (Katie Melua) to ask Mike Batt to write a song?"

But Mike Batt writes songs for everyone, surely you knew that? smiley - winkeyesmiley - smiley
