Oh... ...
Summary of those attempted posts:
Humourous comment about central heating and jumpers.
Mention that the post I had made earlier was intended to be mostly
I made a thread on the subject because I reckon it needs its own thread instead of derailing the News Stories. I suspect it was the link that broke those posts.

I'm sure your describing a G4S board meeting; oh what's that down there, I'm so clever and hard. We got 666 million staff last time I looked, if only I could count.

I am somewhat about the apparent conflicting
values attributed to two separate (but somehow equal)
news stories heard in the last 24 hours.
BBC Whirled News America had footage of Syrian rebels
capturing and trashing border guard stations at both
the Turkish and Iraqi borders. The editorial comment
(when did news 'reporters' start being allowed to express
their opinions?) said that the loss of control over border
crossings was a sure sign of a failed government.
The next item went on to say that British border guards will
be staging a strike just before the Oylmpix opening.
Hmmm...

I am completely at a loss over reports that a heavily armed gunman entered the emergency exit of a crowded multiplex theater and opened fire on the audience during the midnight premiere of "Dark Knight Rises" in Colorado.
Latest headlines are twelve dead, at least 35 injured.
Warner Brothers have immediately issued condolensces and are contemplating suspending all showings.
FBI and local police are combing the assailant's apartment on rumor of explosives.

I just heard about that... it's just... I don't know... apparently people initially thought the heavily armed guy in the cinema was a publicity stunt.

On this particular day, I choose not to think about the lunatic actions of one U.S. American, but rather, to remember the epic achievement of a huge team of them forty-three years ago today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Xtly-dpBeA&feature=player_embedded

Just popped into h2g2 whilst my curry goat is on the go...and though heh I'll look at that thread...haven't read it in sometime..And wow that film is just so touching moving and Romantic and symbolic of Optimism about what we can achieve.
I remember as a small child, sleeping on the sofa with my friend next door. Her mother woke us up as they landed. I was so sleepy..but that good woman forced us awake. Thank you Mrs. Smith.
And I saw a wonderful exhibition at the Southbank of Nasa photographs taken from the Apollo project. Myself and girlfriend, walked around in a daze. The closest images of pure otherness. I fell in love with those pictures. It was unexpected but overwhelming.
What a great day to remember.

Okay this is a few months out of date but might be amusing to some.
Team GB will win 27 gold medals at London 2012, research predicts.
• Sport Industry Research Centre forecasts 56 medals for GB
• 'Host nation advantage provides a quantifiable benefit'
With such effort to mathematically model the outcome of the Olympics one wonders whether there is a need to go through the expense of actually having to stage it. I suppose the actual Olympics could be viewed as an expensive means to "validate" the model.
The report's co-author Professor Chris Gratton said: "Team GB's success will be further evidence that elite sport performance is a managed phenomenon, rather than simply being reliant on a country's demographic and economic dimensions. "The positive host nation effect identified indicates that winning the rights to host the games in the first place is an integral part of this management."

Condolences to all those affected by the killings in Aurora, Colorado, where a "guman" started shooting in a cinema showing "the new Batman film, the Dark Knight Rises".
Aurora police chief said of the gunman "In the last 60 days he purchased four guns and over 6,000 rounds." He bought: a bullet-proof vest, tactical body armour and gloves, an AR-15 military-style, semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun and two pistols and tear gas grenades. All weapons and ammunition were bought legally within the past few months, Mr Oates said.
The gunman has been identified as James Holmes, 24, a former neuroscience PhD student at University of Colorado-Denver' He attended high school in San Diego, California, where his parents still live. He lived in an apartment in north of Aurora, about five miles from the cinema. His only previous brush with the law was a summons for speeding in October 2011.
In New York, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the suspect had dyed his hair red and told police he was the Joker, Batman's infamous nemesis.
Authorities have established no terrorism link, nor any motive, and Mr Holmes had no criminal record in Aurora.

So this seems to be a case of a home grown "mad person". Now of course if this had have been classed as a "terrorist" incident one could be certain that US fighter jets and drones would be bombing some middle-eastern village as we speak (they are probably doing that anyway - I meant a few more middle - eastern villages).

Olympic Legacy 1) urban militarization.
"Authorities have "lost the plot" over the Olympics and are needlessly arresting people, according to a human rights lawyer.
Kieran O'Rourke said authorities had a "hyper-sensitivity" over the Games.
His comments come after an artist who had been approached by Team GB to paint the Athletes' Village was arrested and banned from going near Olympic venues."
