I have to say that I find going to the KFC a thoroughly confusing experience, and I would imagine that anyone who has never been there before would find it confusing too.
You can't just say "oh, two bits of chicken and some chips". You have to do all the pre set variety combinations. Something like:
Supa dupa variety meal:
Two zingo bongo burgers
One zipper dipper
They're not exactly generous with the photos to let you know exactly what you're getting for your money. Come to think of it, maybe they don't know either.

But Guru, even if they were generous with the photos, you still wouldn't know what you were getting as what they put in the boxes never looks like it does in the pictures.... or is that just with places that do burgers and the like?

I've never been able to see what was so special about the coating anyway.

It's tasty.
I'm not sure whether to be impressed or disturbed that we've had more than 3000 posts on this topic - we must be a grumpy lot!

I'm so grumpy, I post my grumps on two threads!
Whyohwhy do the tv companies make the adverts louder than the programmes
Petty Hates
Elentari Posted Apr 30, 2006
Yes! I find that a problem if the programme is American - you have to have it louder than British programmes, then the adverts come on and deafen you!
Petty Hates
swl Posted Apr 30, 2006
is that because it's being transmitted from such a long way away? Should we be encouraging American actors to speak up?

The adverts louder than programs 'myth' (as the advertisers and broadcasters insist) has been discussed here and on many a TV feedback program before.
In essence the producers of the audio tracks on adverts use an 'aural exciter' which basically exaggerates higher and mid-range (vocal) frequencies, making the sound seem to jump out compared to most of the actual program content.
That's the theory anyway. Personally i think they're being disingenious. No matter how it's done, the fact remains that if you have a vcr or amplifier with recording level meters as i do, adverts will always register a higher sound level than all but the most raucious adventure movie- even then.. No doubt, measured in a certain way- sound pressure level or somesuch the *average* level is the same, but yes, to all intents and porpoises the ads are louder. Of course they are. They're commercial TV's bread and butter.

thanks for that. Don't quite see where the camping equipment and dolphins come into it, but informative nonetheless

"HI IT'S ME AGAIN, BARRY SCOTT, HERE TO SHOUT ABOUT THE NEWEST MOST WONDERFUL CIFFING LANG AND DEAFEN YOU AT THE SAME TIME!!!'
That specific advert is so hateful and annoying, and the advertisers can say whatever the heck they want, the man is shouting at the top of his lungs!

Ye gods! Romer is John Romer. You might remember him from such programmes as The Wonders of the Ancient World. He is an archaeologist come presenter. His Egypt and his Constantinople series were excellent looks at the history of these ancient cultures, from the beginning to the end with a look at the archaeology, and the people who did it, which informs us of the theories.
Most recently it was on the History channel, or Discovery Civilisations, or one of them. But that was at least five years ago Hope this helps and until later....

Before shooting the kissing scene in Top Gun where he infamously stood on a box to bring him up to the right height, Tom Cruise practised by kissing the back of his hand for three hours.
