Questions To While Away the Hours ......

Hi Solnushka, Soviet Union collapsed in 1992 so the joke is that in 2002 on the 10th anniversatry will they have a reunion . Not very funny perhaps but a little surreal.

Mr. Cogito Posted Mar 30, 2001
Hello,
Anybody here see the Simpsons where in the UN, the Russian ambassador refers to the country as the Soviet Union? When people tell him the Soviet Union is dead, he shouts "That's what we wanted you to believe!" Cut to tanks coming out of floats in a parade, panic, etc. Then we see Lenin smash out of his glass case like in a zombie movie muttering "Must... smash... capitalism..." Then, that was that, back to the main episode of the show. Brilliant.
It was the episode where Homer becomes the hapless captain of a nuclear sub. Rather prophetic that one, given the recent Naval scandal here. But the Simpsons are great that way.
Where was I? Oh yeah. Soviet reunion. Maybe it could happen as part of the 80s revival...
Yours,
Jake

.... I always felt that the USSR had a better ring to it than the FSU although both had an alarming propensity to invade their neighbours - Afganhistan, Chechniya ..... hang on a moment do you think they're doing it in alphabetic order ? Am I onto something ?
Next question - Why isn't Phonetic Spelt the way it sounds ?

They missed out Belgium though. Pity. It does have to be said that GW seems to be doing his best to relive the cold war, so you never know.

Here in Ireland, we type PIN Numbers into an ATM Machine outside AIB Bank. Yes, you've guessed it, AIB is Allied Irish Bank.
