Refraining from the lesbian theme... no Americans do not call squirles tree rats (unless commenting to someone who believes they are "Cute n' cuddly").

I disagree, Lucinda.
Didn't you watch it last week??

Martin Harper Posted May 14, 2002
Nah, but I watched the last two series on C4, and there was just the one lesbian thing between the promiscuous one (I'm no good with names) and the artist - which lasted a couple of episodes. Not none, but not much. Plenty of other sex to make up for that, though...

Right, linguistic hat on, time only for a few quick thoughts:
aluminum - this is technically the wrong spelling even in the US.
How many children do you have / have you got? Depends what part of Britain you're in. They're all a bit posh up here in Reading, and say the first one.
'Anyways' is Northern English dialect, used in Yorkshire at least.
Maybe mention the Gwyneth Paltrow - Dick Van Dyke scale of English accents.
BTW, there's no such thing as a British accent - please don't use the term.
Good example of miscommunication. British caller getting transferred by American operator. She asks 'Are you through?' He says 'Yes' and she hangs up.
I have once amazed someone I was on a talk e-mail type thing (the brain's definitely gone now). She used 'quaint' and I asked if she was American. She then used 'eh?' and I asked if she'd also spent some time in Canada. I then guessed which state she was living in, but that was sheer luck. TAFN

Not writing how we speak? Eh?
I do this allowhver the shopp. F'rinstnce, 'Ashll gownava wesh, t'get red o'th mhuck. Owt or nowt, or sum't? puttyer bhutes on and gownava lhuck. I nyuh! I nyuh the trowz'z werrundunh.' etc. (All nouns are prounounced whispery like you've run out of breath.)
No, really. But then I don't speak like most.
Ta is also used to mean thankyou. Lots of us use daft goodbye's like cheerio in an ironic context, which is fine if they're said in a silly voice or overemphasised; 'ta'ra' (goodbye, not a fanfare)Likewise: 'old bean', 'jolly good' and 'tiddly pom'.

Well Reading's up for me. In relation to where I'm originally from (Sussex) anyway.
Has anyone mentioned 'cheers' yet?

Hi Jimmy
In response to your post at F48874?thread=190600&post=2129422#p2129422 -
You've had lots of ideas thrown at you for this entry, but as far as I can see no-one said this is unsuitable for the Edited Guide. The fact that it hasn't been picked yet doesn't mean it never will be.
If you still want to help it along, go back and see what you want or don't want to do with it, and post a message. If you feel right now you don't want to have anything more to do with it, then obviously just leave it alone.
What sometimes helps is if you post something at least, say, once a week so that it gets back up towards the top of the list that is in order of last posting date. Otherwise entries can sink down below the horizon. Having said that, it's worth mentioning that some scouts like to rummage around the older entries in Peer Review to see what they can come up with.
If you don't mind incorporating at least some of the many suggestions made, but don't feel inclined to work on it yourself, you could always ask if anyone else would like to collaborate with you. Or you could try the Collaborative Writing Workshop at Writing-Collaborative.
Just trying to come up with some ideas - feel free to ignore me.

Bels approach works, but I favour a more zen approach. Make what changes you can, and then sit back and wait. Eventually it'll get picked, or you'll get more useful feedback (as opposed to off-topic chatter). Meanwhile, write more entries! It might take a couple of months, but it's not a race - it's a marathon...

Guys in Lesbain chat rooms get told to go away in no uncertain terms....and sometimes (according to the rules) get booted off the server, women also refuse to talk to them. So most of them seem to pretend to be lesbians and try and have cybers.
Any way back to the point...

I'm still smarting after getting chucked out of a female-only chat room, because no-one would believe I was a woman! I got asked 'what's your cycle', and got confused, started wittering on about bikes - it just wasn't a term that clicked with me....
This entry could definately be big- but huge! A collaberative entry definately seems the best way to go.

I got tired of waiting... five weeks of no response is a long time. I also don't feel like making my work a collaboration... it may seem selfish, but I came up with this idea and worked it out, and I do not want anyone elses name on it (sorry is I sound like a jerk, I don't mean it that way but cannot think of a more tactfull way to put it.). I've implemented the changes I liked and proceed to watch it sit in limbo...

Well it hasn't happened to me (yet!) but I know just how you feel. That doesn't make you a jerk.
I just wish people wouldn't try to hijack this forum for their totally off-topic chat. There are plenty of other places for that.
Seeya pal.

Hi Jimmy,
Good for you, no reason you shouldn't have your own article, that's what the guide is for.
If you have made changes to the article, most people post a note to the conversation to say what they have done. This (a) keeps it at the top of the PR list, (b) makes it obvious to Scouts that it's ready to pick (not waiting for work from you), and (c) keeps all the PRers happy that you have paid attention to what they said
Since this seems to have come back to life, hopefully you shouldn't have too long to wait now ...
