Americans constantly think that pub is the English word for bar. Not so. Bars are to found inside pubs and in other places such as night clubs, cricket pavillions, music venues and student union buildings. If you say that you are giong to the pub in a stadium, you will be ridiculed. It's probably best to stick with bar.
