h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Some of you might have encountered a pop-up survey when logging onto h2g2 recently. Just to reassure you, this is nothing to worry about. BBCi Marketing occasionally conduct surveys to help with future campaigns and h2g2 has been selected for such a survey this time. It's not compulsory, but we'd really appreciate the feedback (the entire thing shouldn't take you longer than five minutes to fill out).

Does it only appear when you're logging in? Doesn't that discriminate against those of us who remain logged in 24/7?

I didn't get a popup window.

I had this about a 10 days ago (if I remember rightly)

I did wonder if they wer aware I was logging onto H2G2 as against say Sportdaq.

I haven't seen it either - and I've logged in twice today.

I'd say there are a significant number of researchers that use pop-up blockers, myself included. I also don't log out.

They'd probably get a better response of they sent out an email survey.

It doesn't only appear when you log in, and it will probably be blocked if you have pop-up blocking software.

I got it when I was on one of the school's computers without a popup blocker. Don't worry, I said good things! How could I not?

I've got it three times does this mean I'm three times as important?

I have stopped counting how often it popped up - does that make me VIP ?

I put the BBC site on my computer's protection software blacklist for certain types of things such as popups after the last offensive popup survey on the religion message boards - which apparently wouldn't go away even if people filled it in. Some people managed to minimise it and leave it lying around so that it wouldn't pop up again but it just kept re-enlarging itself on my computer.

I gave honestly happy reviews and rating numbers but in the comments section, I mentioned the old "Petition for Greater Freedom on h2g2" and gave a link to it, just in case a different set of people at BBC might be looking over our comments.

i bet theres not a blocker that can stop that pop up

I've had this. Believe me, h2g2 has gotten some kind words in these surveys.

All of them true from me, I'm not ashamed to admit.

Jim, how about posting a link here so we can elect to fill in the survey if we use a popup-blocking browser like Mozilla?

Good idea. I just logged out and logged in again and I didn't get the popup (and I don't use popup blockers). Or is it only for UK users?

I'd just like to point out that the 'Sign in' button is blue not orange.

I got the pop-up a couple weeks ago when using the computers at the public library, which presumably don't have a pop-up blocker. Don't worry, I said all sorts of lovely things about hootoo! I haven't gotten it at home, though, as I use Mozilla. I agree that a pop-up isn't a very useful way of conducting surveys, since so many of us are going to completely miss them.

Firefox has the option of allowing select sites to launch pop-ups.

I agree with the other postings here that suggest posting a link to the survey would increase the number of respondents.
