23 July, 2004: Downtime Advance Warning - 28 July, 2004 - 1000hrs BST

The H2G2 Editors

A new DNA release (back-end fixes) at 1000hrs BST on Wednesday, 28 July will mean that h2g2 (and all DNA services) will be down for at least half an hour - but hopefully for no longer than two hours.

You will not be able to register with, or post to, any of the DNA communities during this time.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

Is this downtime actually going to happen on schedule, or at some completely random time like the last one, just to confuse us? smiley - winkeye

What is a 'back-end fix'? And will we notice any changes?

>> What is a 'back-end fix'? <<

Now there's a question that doesn't bear thinking about. Hopefully it's just some clever techie terminology and you'll get an official and correct answer before someone begins to speculate openly.

>> And will we notice any changes? <<

If someone were to start in on fixing my back-end I'd certainly notice it. They wouldn't get much time to make any noticable changes.

Being some thousands of miles away, I am probe-ably not feeling quite as intimidated by the threat as those of you closer to the source.

Well you know h2, I'm sure there will be absolutely no more speculation about this until the Italics get back on Monday morning...
